  • Worth it!
We played the second edition at a game night, and LOVED it. There are 50 unique storylines in the game, and each one is well thought out and enjoyable! The rules are easy to follow and leave room for subjectivity for whoever is playing. Highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys strategy-based games! ... show more

  • Kinda fun but causes conflict
So this game builds slowly, but it utilizes all the tropes of horror films which is somewhat fun. Mostly your character dies and the scenarios, of which there are many, are set in the bad guys favor. I don’t think the room building, which allows every game to have a new board, adds all that much because there are few neutral and very few positive rooms, so mostly, as characters explore, bad stuff happens. You can’t do much besides explore and hope you get a weapon until the main plot of the game commences when someone fails a roll. Like most horror films, few characters (only ever one in five games) survive. Also some cards and powers in the game are a bit confusing and implementation can be squishy, so if you play with the type of person who likes to argue the rules, this game can cause conflict. Honestly I have decided not to play anymore as the result of having to play for a full hour and then just dying off quickly after that. I still think the game was worth the money and your experience may be better. I’m glad we found this game, but am not too sad to put it down after a few plays. ... show more

  • Fun game
This is such a fun game and you never know what's going to happen when you step into a new room! I love that it gives space for creative roleplay fun when reading cards or the story adventure. I might download some spooky background music to add to the ambience while playing! Play through can take a while but it's fun and always a different experience. Watch out for younger kids or kids who like to cheat as if they end up the traitor they can interpret their special rules differently than written which can give them more power than they should have (if it seems like they have an unfair advantage, ask them to point out that part of their instructions). The box organizer is interesting and will be upgrading to a purchased organizer for ease of setup. The player markers can be tough to move (there's an upgraded set available that has wheels but I found them to be looser than I'd like so you have to be careful not to jostle them; but it also comes with cooler dice which I did like.) ... show more

  • Amazing starter board game for those wanting to get more serious into the hobby
Betrayal is consistently our go-to for friends newer to "advanced" board games (anything not Sorry!). It's always a great time, has amazing replay value with the RNG aspect of the story, and always mixes it up with who starts the haunt / how the end-game plays out. A must-have for any board game enthusiast, and perfect as a gift! ... show more

  • This is a great game.
I ordered this game a few months ago and have played in multiple times since. The instructions are a little intimidating the first time around, but just take the time to read them and they aren’t that bad. They give good information that doesn’t make it overly complicated. The replay value for this game is fantastic because there are so many different scenarios. If you like board games, I highly recommend this one. It recommends at least 3 players, but you can play with 2 people if you both play 2 separate characters. Once the haunt is revealed the traitor just plays the monster and the traitor character and the other person plays the other 3 characters. You just can’t do a haunt with a secret traitor. Overall, this is such a great game and I can’t wait to play it again and get the expansion!! ... show more

  • Fun game
My partner and I absolutely love this game. It is our favorite to play with friends. I would recommend playing with someone who has played it before because we have found that it is the easiest ti explain that way. However, the books comes with detailed rules and how to play so it has all the information you need. ... show more

  • Fun game
So this game is not easy to learn at all. It's a very complicated game and one that I would highly recommend you play with an experienced player first for your first few games. The rulebook is thick and doesn't even cover every single scenario you may encounter in the game which is why the instructions specifically state that if this happens you just come to an agreement as a group about how to handle the situation and keep playing. Besides the fact that it's a very complicated game, it is kind of addictive at the same time. No game is ever the same. The layout of the house changes, there are about 50 different haunt scenarios, etc. There is so much variability from game to game that it keeps it really interesting. But that's also why the rulebook is thick too. Each game takes approximately 2 hours to complete. It's a fun game! Give it a try. ... show more
