  • Great product!
This is such a good tool to measure nutrients in you tank. This checker comes with a small amount of reagents to be able to do the measurements but you will have to buy more packs later.

  • Love IT!
Much better than using other methods of measuring your nitrates. It appears to be much more accurate in every way. But it is a little bit complicated to try to get the powder in the bottle because the powder pack is much wider than the little top of the bottle. And it says to get as much as you can in there, not sure exactly what that's supposed to mean. It would have been much better if they had made little tubes that were around that you could cut the end off to pour into the solution bottle. Guess they didn't think of that. ... show more

  • +/- 2ppm is a tolerance you can drive a truck through
Of all the Hanna Checkers, this is the only one I have worries about the accuracy. But probably works ok for coarse readings that a beginner would want, and is easier to use than the Low Range option. If you are like me, a new reefer, and don't want to read the color change on the standard kits, this will work. While the tolerance is pretty big, I am aiming for a 1-5ppm Nitrate in my tank, and I trust this to tell me I am at 0ppm, between 1-5ppm, or above 5ppm. So it will do the job, but I will probably move to another option as I become better at reefing and start aiming to keep my Nitrate closer to 1ppm. I tested 4 things first day I got it; My aquarium 3 times, and fresh made saltwater 1 time. My Aquarium was 3.8ppm, 4.9ppm, and 4.6 ppm. So the accuracy is probably better than the +/-2ppm claimed. Fresh saltwater was 0.0 ppm. Did not error out, gave a clean 0.0. 1 week later, I tested my aquarium again, only once, and got 3.9ppm. To be fair, I only have 3 small fishes in there right now, so there is not a huge bio load right now. Once I have more critters in there, this should start to detect the weekly increase, if not, at least monthly it will let me know if I am trending up or mostly stable. Also, this says to mix the reagent for 2min, then take measurement 7 min later. I tested this as well, after 2 min of mixing, I started a timer and checked the reading every minute for 10 minutes. I got 1min:2.4, 2min:2.7, 3min:3.1, 4min:3.3, 5min:3.5, 6min:3.6, 7min:3.9, 8min:3.7, 9min:3.9, 10min:3.9 So it seems stable after the 7 minutes, so error is probably more to do with the reader itself, and if you spilled some reagent. Final Analysis: Good for beginner, probably want something more accurate long term. But this Checker is more accurate than the standard kits I would say, because it removes the human reading color element of the test. Using one of the standard color matching tests, I thought I was reading 10ppm, which seemed much higher than my 3 little fishes would make. This Checker seems to confirm that, and I trust it more than that other test. ... show more

  • Worth the money
The accuracy and ease justifies the initial price. After the initial payment the cost of refill reagents is the same as others
