I have own fish tank from 64 gallons to literally a quarter gallon plastic tank. This is not cheap for its size in my honest opinion but it has got everything you need for a tank and it is very well-thought out build and compact so I assume it is worth the price. All you have to do is add water and bacteria in the tank and let it run on its own for a couple of weeks before you add any inhabitant into the tank. Is it perfect for a single betta? I would say yes because betta do not like to swim in big tanks. I had put a betta in a 20 gallon or even 10 gallon tank before and all it does is hover closer to the top on a corner because betta, as a gourami family, are surface breather and they need to constantly swim up to breath, hence the air bubbles it blow around it's nesting area. So yes, contrary to all the cry babies about betta cruelty, this is a perfect tank for betta. The filtration system part of this tank, which literally takes up a quarter of the entire tank volume, is more than enough to filter out the impurities from the water and let you relax and enjoy the tank without the need for weekly water change, provided you only place a single betta fish in there. If you use this tank to house micro shrimps, you don't need to change any water at all, just need to top up evaporated water from the tank occassionally. One caution though, the light tends to get hot and it also raise the temperature of the water, which is a major plus in cold weather seasons. In hot summer, I would turn the lights off in hot summer nights or during the hot days. I highly recommend this little compact tank. Since this is an acrylic tank, please do not use any rough scrub material to clean the surface of the tank, inside or outside. It will scratch the hell out of this beautiful tank. Use a soft cloth or an acrylic scrubber that you can buy for cheap from petco. The scrubber usually come in white color. The blue scrubbers are for glass surface only and will definitely scratch the hell out of this tank. Enjoy. ... show more

Fantastic little aquarium! We needed to get a larger container for my son's Betta and this works great!! The light is nice to have... She especially likes it when we feed her, sort of like a trigger to know it is coming. I have one complaint, however, the pump has started to not work. It comes on, then doesn't.... Can't tell if it is a short or what. Will be contacting the vendor to see about replacing the pump unit. Overall, great little addition for us. Pump or not, since it isn't critical. 9/1/19 - I raised the number of stars to 5 based on the seller's response to my problems!!! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. When I got this tank I was impressed with how easy it was to put together, but was concerned about the "sponge" in the back filtering the water, it's an odd size and was unsure how I would replace it. The light and the actual filter plug into the top of the tank allowing only 1 plug to be used from the wall, I thought that was going to be good saving an outlet. At first it was working well, but I bought it less than 45 days ago and the filtration device is already broken. It completely stopped working, and with it sharing the electrical with the light there is no way to replace it. Yep, I am forced to buy another tank! Do not get this tank it's rip off! ... show more

    • Pump problems ?

Reviews showed filter problems . Thought the same thing when my filter would not pump . First , I noticed the hole in the sponge filter did not line up with the pump impeller . Second , I let the pump sit for a half hour in the filled aquarium , third , I had to prime it for about 5 minutes . After all that it started pumping and has been working just fine. Update : pump quit after two days . There is a better aquarium , little bigger that is worth the extra bit of money ... show more

    • Overpriced Unless you Know How to Manually Transform It

For a roughly $30 budget, you could just buy a 3 gallon tank at PetSmart, and that space is much healthier for a Betta. The actual space in this tank is barely 1 gallon, which makes their claim for volume a fraud. The only good thing is that, despite designed incorrectly, the filter at the back, which takes up a third of the tank’s volume, can be turned into a very good filter. I removed the sponge and place a heater in the space for warm water (critical for betta). I also make the middle chamber a three stage filter by adding zeo-carb and biological filter media. The sponge is on top of the middle chamber to take care of physical waste. Now you get an integrated pro filter that could cost you much money in other aquarium kits. You also need to place a large plant in front of the pump outlet to reduce the current; otherwise there will be a tornado in the tank and is not good for any fish. ... show more
