This hamster cage is a fantastic value, all things considered. But it’s important to understand that you will likely need additional items to make it work for you. First the good: it’s huge. The wood is good quality. It looks nice and is relatively stable. I bought this for $120 and it’s easily worth twice that, when you compare it to other similar items. But you’ll have to do a little work. The instructions are decent but you’ll have to look forward a few steps to find orientation on some of the pieces, so you don’t cover up screw holes. It takes a good 2-3 hours to assemble. The assembly makes use of dowels for strength, however the dowels are mostly used on interior pieces and lacking in the outside corners where they would provide a lot more stability. It’s still decently stable, however. The hinges are cheap and the door latches are absolute garbage. You’ll need to buy better ones. You can keep the hinges but your doors might be a little crooked. The latches cannot be saved. The other thing is the wood is unfinished so a couple of hamster pees and it’s going to stink. If you buy some food safe cutting board wax- usually made with beeswax and mineral oil- and coat every flat surface, it will keep the urine from soaking into the wood. I purchased this for my daughter's rats. It took me almost 2 days to finish building. I had to take it apart no less than 3 times due to holes being drilled in the wrong areas, the instructions being incorrect, or having to repair parts as I go. I have also had to make modifications as one of the provided pieces left a 1 inche gap that the rats could fit through since it was also incredibly flimsy. The multiple levels are nice, but supported only by a ramp on one side. I worry that they will start to sag as soon as the boys start running around. The paint and wood are also poor quality with many areas chipping or bubbled. There is no sealant on the wood, so I believe it will also be impossible to keep clean and smell free. Hamster loves this! And it looks great in our place. The instructions were not very friendly. You should read ahead, because if you follow step by step, you'll have to redrill holes. We had to put a wire netting on the side part because the slats are big enough for her to get through. And she did. You can easily put something on top so they won't escape. Just like the pictures though, she loves to hang out on the extended right hut. Plenty of places to put wheels, sand baths, tubes, houses etc. We saw a definite change in her happiness once we got this and took her out of the store bought cage. Would recommend to any hamster owner. They need to run! ... show more

I bought this for my bearded dragon. I seen lizards were suggested as a suitable for. Now WHY I assumed it would have a mesh top, I don’t know. But it DOES NOT. you cannot put a heat lamp on this. I’m going to try and make it work but that will require me to go out and buy the screen top & wood to make a top and Jerry rig it myself. The instructions were incredibly hard to follow. I read through the instructions and then just started assembling in any way I seen fit. It will work eventually for reptiles but it’s going to need some tweaking. One piece (a shelf tier) came broken in two. I had to use other screws I had and screw the pieces back together (they were glued and nailed). Not able to screw on the top since it didn't come with enough screws. One of the platforms broke with little pressure. Many drill holes visible even those that came already screwed together. Needs covers or wood putty to even make it look decent. Do not recommend for small rodents for sure since the side box's lid has large gaps in it. The wiring could have been a lot tighter on some of the panels. For the price, ain't bad but definitely not something to use for permanent enclosure. ... show more

I LOVE this enclosure. It’s very stylish and looks nice in my office. I used it for my pigeon when she was young, and she loved it, she loved exploring the different levels. She is bigger now and flying so she uses it less but still sometimes plays in it. It’s really well made, very sturdy. I highly recommend this. It could probably be used for guinea pigs of some modifications were made. Since it’s wood I do recommend being careful of chewing with some animals but overall I really love this (and I’m very picky). ... show more

Not all of the thousands of pieces were included and holes were drilled in completely wrong spots! And entire bag of Hardware was missing!!!! PLEASE don’t put yourself thru the agony we did! Not worth it if it were FREE!
