  • REVISED REVIEW - PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY!
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
I've only had this for 2 weeks, so I don't know about longevity, but I will update this if it doesn't last. I had a 10 year old Vitamix and it made me unhappy for a couple of reasons: 1. too big to fit under my cabinet 2. too large to do just one smoothie I love this Hamilton Beach blender: 1. it does just one smoothie fine without needing to use the tamper or fidgeting with it - I like the kind of smoothie that is a blended drink - icy and thick. 2. it fits under my cabinet. I don't leave this out all year because I usually only have frozen drinks when it's warm, however, I just might not put it away because it fits under the cabinet. 3. i love the addition of the little velcro strip that is attached to the cord in the back. you can refold it and secure it with the velcro strip so the cord isn't sprawled all over the counter - in fact it doesn't stick out at all. 4. I also think it is thoughtful that they put a measurement in the clear top that fits into the lid. You can remove this top to use the tamper or add ingredients, but it can also be used for small measurements and has some markings. If you fill the center of the clear lid, it's 1/3 cup of liquid, which is exactly what I need for my recipe. One less thing to get dirty. 5. It is powerful. These are little things to some, but, I like a neat countertop and I have found a way to store everything inside cabinets - even my toaster - so my counters are free to work on as intended. My cabinet is open on the end where I store the blender. I can't fit it under there going in from the front because there is a piece of trim that just barely makes that impossible. So, I go around the side where there is no trim and can slide it under the cabinet. The machine is a little over 15 .25 inches high. I love the pre-programmed options on the left. You can turn it to Smoothie, Crush, Puree and Clean and push "Start" and the programs will start, rev-up and stop on their own. As to what others have found annoying: 1. loudness - the Vitamix was as loud or louder. This one did not seem any louder than any other powerful blender and I don't even feel the need to use the cover. I do LIKE the cover because when you want to put this away, the blender cup, lids and tamper will all fit inside the cover which has a nice, big handle on it; this is convenient, especially if you're storing it up high. 2. lid is hard to remove - yes, it is - a bit. When I remove the blender cup, I hold it against my body as a stabilizer and then pull the lid off. REVISED REVIEW! SURPRISE, SURPRISE - it's just after the return window and there's a problem. Since I got the blender, I've been making the same drink every day: 1/2 cup liquid, 4 coffee ice cubes, 2 tsp chocolate sauce, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 3 packets of Stevia. I use the "crush ice" program for about 30 seconds or until I can no longer hear chunks of ice in the blender, turn it off and then switch the control to the right to blend for another 30 -45 seconds. This gives me a frozen drink that can be consumed through a straw or with a spoon. Now that the return window has passed, its leaking liquid out the bottom of the cup (see photo above). I contacted Customer Service about this via email. They said the machine "performs best" if you use a minimum of one cup of liquid. However, if I use a whole cup of liquid, it is no longer a frozen drink - it's just a drink. I have responded to them with the info they requested (how I make the drink), however, at this point, I'm pretty unhappy. It grinds up the ice just fine - no problem there - so why the leak? I really wanted to be happy with this machine. It's a good fit in every other way - but if it's leaking now, what will happen later? In the beginning there was a fine mist of grease that would form under the cup. I just wiped it out. I hope it's not possible for that to get into my drink. I kept my Vitamix just in case something like this happened. So glad I did. But that thing is huge and doesn't fit well in my kitchen, so now I have to get it out and set it up and put it away every day instead of this one that fits nicely under my cabinet on the countertop. I also notice that it now costs $125 - I paid $130 on Prime Day. I wonder why it's 26 % off now? ... show more

  • I LOVE it!!
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
I make smoothies for most of my meals because I'm on a restricted diet. And I had a roommate who didn't approve of me using my bullet at night because it was too loud. At first I was mad because I had to buy a new, quieter blender, but after I used this one a couple of times, I couldn't be happier. It is powerful enough to puree some of my more pesky ingredients. And, I can't expect something packing that much power to be silent, but it is much quieter than any blender I've had in the past. I love it ... show more

  • Blends well
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
I like the blending options and speed. The jar was smaller than i thought based upon the image however it is perfect for my needs. Definitely not that quiet which is why i bought it with a shield but is a good blender. Makes good smoothies

  • A little quieter
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
It is not as quiet as I had hoped for the price. Disappointed. It is less noise than the Ninja, but not that much. At least it is a lower pitched sound.

  • Really is quieter than other blenders
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
If you keep the power on 1-2-3 then the noise is really minimal. Cranking it up to 9 gives an unpleasant high pitch and low pitch, but the mid-pitch is nicely muted.

  • Better than I expected, but also louder.
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
When the spinney thing on my Jamba blender cup quit spinning, I tried to find a replacement since the base/motor was fine. Alas, this was impossible, so after ridiculous hours of searching, reading ratings, and deciding how much a blender to use only for smoothies was worth to me, I landed on this Hamilton Beach model. I was going primarily for quiet since I value my hearing and wearing ear protection when making food is ridiculous. I wasn't going to spend $400-600 for a blender, so it came down to this one. It is louder than I hoped, and louder than the Jamba was, but I don't think I or my family will suffer hearing loss over it. If you were sleeping anywhere in our large house, though, you would probably rate it as too loud. It does a bang-up job on smoothies, even better than the Jamba. I like that you set it and turn it on and it turns off when it decides it is done. I am pleased with it for the price. ... show more

  • Not as loud as she others, but by no means quiet
Style: 1500 Watt - 4 Programs
I wanted to like this blender. It is definitely quieter than other blenders, more so with the sound shield in place, but it's still loud. What really bothered me about this blender is that the lid leaks when blending. And do not blend anything remotely hot in this blender, as it sprays out the top. I know that hot liquids create excess steam when blended, and extra caution needs to be taken. My wife loves making blended soups (tomato, cream of broccoli, butternut squash), and our previous blenders had no issues with blending these hot soups. This one just can't keep it in. It spays out the top (where the agitation wand goes for mixing smoothies). We had to hold several folded kitchen towels on the top while blending to contain the overflow. This blender is probably great for all cold blending, but for us, it just didn't work as well as some others we have had. We gave a couple tries before sending it back. ... show more
