  • Worked well as a subwoffer in a ported box!
Sound is rich and deep in my ported box, very good quality for the price. When using this driver for a sub, remember to give it a good low power breaking period of a few days before you drive it hard and it should last for years of wonderful sound.

  • Great and easy replacement of klipsch promedia 2.1 sub driver
Great lil speaker. Easy replacement of dry rotted woofer surround driver. Sounds great for what it is. Way better than original after several years of use, and obviously better than what it sounded like with no surround material.

  • Great speaker for the money.
I purchased this speaker to replace the original subwoofer speaker in a Klipsch ProM221 unit. Looking into Klipsch replacement speakers and rebuilt Klipsch speakers, it was looking like I was going to have to spend about $50 - $70. This GRS came up for $20 with a rubber surround. I know the rubber surrounds don't have as much excursion as the foam surrounds that come with the original Klipsch but considering re-foaming the original 14 year old speaker would cost the same as the new GRS, I went with the new GRS. Installation was very easy and the speaker fit perfectly as well. I didn't even have to re-drill new holes. The sound quality is very good. The AMP and speaker unit doesn't seem to have a problem with the speaker and everything seems to be on the up-and-up. As for the bass, it is more than acceptable. I don't get the really low bass with this speaker like I did with the original Klipsch driver, the sound I do get is very nice. Since this is a speaker setup for a PC, this driver works well enough. The music I do listen to is well delivered and sounds nice and full with this driver. When I play my games on the PC they sound terrific. I don't get any rattling or hissing from the driver. I cannot speak to long term performance as I have only had this unit in place for a couple of days, but if anything does happen within the next couple of months, I will re-post. So far however, I am very happy with this product. ... show more

  • Very affordable replacement for original Klipsch sub
Here's a few things you need to know: Blasting (the good) 1. The speaker fits the hole pattern and size of original. 2. Poly speaker should last longer than the original paper and foam design, though those did sound good. 3. Very affordable option (hence the 5 stars); if it was much more it would not be worth replacing. Hearing loss (the bad) 1. The original speaker had a plastic ring with a groove that this replacement does not have. The groove was to hold the mesh speaker cover on. May not matter to you, some people take these off. 2. The original has one small post and one larger post to keep the red/black wires on the right posts. This speaker has both the same size, which is common in my opinion. A small diameter sander on a dremel tool trimmed the post to fit. 3. Not sure how much this impacts final sound but the magnet of this was slightly smaller than the original. Note: you don't need to take the plate off the back to change the speaker; the screws are accessible from the outside under the screen. Just take the speaker out and change out the wires. Took it for a test drive with "Get the party started" then "1812 Overture" sounds good. Reminded me of how good these little Klipsch computer speakers are. ... show more

  • Great replacement for old dbx subwoofer
The foam surrounds in my old dbx subwoofer speakers (circa 1990) finally crumbled apart due to age. I didn't realize this until I recently rearranged my audio setup and took the opportunity to open the subwoofer panel and check things out. I had experience in the past with the foam cone surrounds on other speakers crumbling apart as they got older. Sure enough, upon opening the subwoofer panel both woofer surrounds were dried up and cracked. My guess is they had been this way for years and the sound degradation was too subtle to notice. At first, I considered just replacing the foam surrounds using a rebuild kit but I didn't think that the original speakers were of such high quality that this would be worth it. So, I started looking for a durable, 6.5-inch replacement woofer with similar specs to the original equipment. Since the old speakers had minimal markings, I did some research online about how best to select subwoofer speakers. I quickly educated myself about speaker power rating, natural frequency, and Q-factors. There is also good data out there to help you select replacement speakers considering factors such as whether or not your subwoofer is enclosed or ported. After considering various options, I determined that the GRS 6PR-8 was the right replacement since it met the power handling spec, cross-over characteristics, and enclosure design plus they also have a poly-cone and rubber surround. Rubber surrounds are considered to be more resistant to age than foam. Installation was easy and I couldn't be more pleased with this do-it-yourself project. My sound system is like new again. Great product and lots of choices from the vendor, Parts Express. ... show more

  • Crap
Complete garbage.. I bought it to replace the bad speaker on my Klipsch system..based on these reviews I thought it would be great..Nope, completely distorted and that's with the subwoofer turned all the way down.... Avoid this speaker

  • Klipsch back to life
As others have stated, it's a good fit for the old klipsch thx 2.1 set. As I didn't have any large clips, I just soldiered on the small slim connector from the old speaker onto the new one. I just wedged some tape around the outside of the speaker rim so the grill would wedge in. I would say it isn't quite as punchy as the old speaker though, but sill alright. ... show more
