Description

GROZ 39011 7-Inch Rapid Action Wood-Working Vise. Constructed of heavy-duty cast iron. The jaw is 7-inch wide with an 8-inch max opening. The main screw has buttress threads with chrome-plated dual slide bars. This vise features a unique rapid action handle. To engage rapid action, rotate the handle the normal way to tighten. Then turn the handle in the opposite position to freely move the front jaw. Designed for repetitive jobs that may have different sizes. Pre-drilled holes to mount under the workbench.

I have two of these vices one on each of my benches plus the 9" version as a tail vice on one of the tables. They have been in use for a couple of years now and I only wish I had installed them ten years ago. They are not as pretty as some higher end vices but are fully functional, as robustly made, and will last a lifetime. The mechanism works smoothly. I brush the sawdust and grime off of the screw and shafts from time to time. It is important to install them properly and attach whatever you want to use as jaw pads. I used maple, drilling dog holes in the outboard pad so that I can extend the range of the the vice to the width or length of the bench using dogs set in the bench top. The only problem I have had with either is that the tips on the handle unscrew themselves and can fall off and get lost, but this is easily fixed with a little locktite. ... show more

I've been using this wood vise for over a year and it serves its stated purpose well. It is very sturdy and good value. This is the first "rapid action" vise I've had, and I'm actually not very fond of that feature, but that's just personal taste.

I have problems with the catch devise. I have to slide the jaws open and close several times to get the main screw to ingage. Otherwise, it works fine!
