As simplistic as this product is, it has 2 main features I greatly appreciate. 1. Quality. The clear top is molded to that it fits very snug onto the black base. It doesn't allow moisture to escape at the joining of the two halves. Consequently it also doesn't allow any foreign bodies in at the joint either. Condensation that runs down the walls is returned to the perimeter of the bulk substrate. Moisture is one of the limiting factors for heavy flushes. 2. Durability. The thickness is there to ensure neither half will break or crack. I've made alot of monotubs out of store bought storage totes. This is thicker than a storage tote. I'd definitely call it "heavy duty". You can't go wrong for the price either, as everything is already predrilled and doesn't have any rough or sharp edges. Highly recommend!!!! ... show more

You could spend less for a DIY monotub if your willing to buy a whole saw and hopefully don't crack the tub and buy filter disk or poly fill. Oh you might need to make more then one tub to get back the investment. Still it won't be as good as this especially for a beginner. Some big advantages are that the inside is completely smooth, no nooks and weird shapes on the inside which makes being sterile much easier and help to create a completely even substrate. The biggest advantage is the clear humidity done. It allows monitoring without opening it up therefore reducing the change of contermination. It is not perfectly clear but enough so to get okay pictures and definitely good enough to see exactly what's happening without opening it. It comes with some plugs for the vent holes to limit fresh air flow for spawning to bulk. I didn't use those myself. Instead I put the included filter disk on and covered those with plastic bag pieces on it with masking tape. This enabled me to change to fruiting conditions without opening up the tub and not having to open it until harvest. It's working out really wel for me. ... show more
