Description

Grodan Stonewool (rockwool) is made from molten rock spun into cotton candy- like fibers and then compressed into cubes, blocks, or slabs. Where other rockwool brand manufacturers cut all sizes from one batch of wool, Grodan is unique by making different types of fibers. The purpose is to support the requirement of the plant in the different plant stages. Grodan has a tremendous capacity for absorbing nutrient solution while retaining plenty of oxygen for rapid plant growth. Grodan comes in graduated sizes. Seedlings started in cubes are easily transferred to blocks and then onto slabs, if desired. Seedlings or cuttings started in the Grodan cubes can also be transplanted into more traditional planters and growing mediums. Grodan A'OK plugs are designed for seed and cutting propagation prior to "blocking on" into larger growing blocks. The V-shape design of the plug discourages tangling of roots between the plugs in the A'OK plug sheet. A'OK plugs come in a sheet that fits a standard 10x20 flat.

  • Best germination medium
These have worked better than anything I have used previously for germinating seeds. The amount of moisture they hold is great as you don't have to continually worry about the germination medium drying up on you. These are great for whatever your finally growing medium will end up being. They work great for hydro and aero-ponics because they fit perfectly in the 2 in. netting pot or in 1 1/2 inch pvc tubing. They also plant well in soil and help to keep the roots moist due to the moisture retention properties of the material when you water the plant. ... show more

  • Perfect for tower garden
This is what we buy for our tower garden. Works perfectly.

  • Some cubes are on their 4th time being used and they still work fine. I've only used them for hydroponic lettuce
I use these to start lettuce seeds for my indoor hydroponic bucket lettuce garden in my classroom. I put them in 2 inch net pots to start with (3 weeks) and them transfer them to 4 gallon buckets (2/bucket) and let the lettuce grow in the buckets for another 5 weeks. 12 Buttercrunch lettuce go to our cafeteria each week. I reuse them. After we cut the lettuce, we cut the roots off and leave the cube in the net cup. We make another small hole with a pencil and put more seeds in and start the process over again. Some cubes are on their 4th time being used and they still work fine. I've only used them for hydroponic lettuce. Potting mix would probably be cheaper/more convenient for traditional planting. ... show more

  • the best rock wool available
I am a big fan of this particular rock wool cube. You can buy different kinds for cheaper but they are not nearly as nice as these. These are so reliable that I always get close to 100% germination rates. They also fit perfectly as a block in the grodan tray that I use. They also don't fall apart, fluff up or get distorted like the cheaper ones. Since these blocks are the first step in my hydroponics projects I rely on their high quality. ... show more

  • Perfect for my Tower Garden!
I now have 3 Tower Gardens that I bought second hand (yes, I'm out of control) and love them! I've been buying my seedlings at Livingtowers.com, which are an excellent source in Florida, but wanted to try to germinate some myself this year. My seedlings are growing very well in this rockwool and it fits perfectly into the Tower Garden net pots. The best is that the price was so much more reasonable, especially when you consider the shipping charges from the TG website. ... show more

  • Hardest Rockwool Cubes I have ever bought
I carefully third 1 1/2" rockwool cubes with bread knife, then use a fresh utility knife blade to cut top to bottom slit for lettuce seed I sprout in plastic brownie tray between coffee filters. After about 4 days the Black Seeded Simpson lettuce sprout is placed in the small rockwool bit held upright in 75% strength lettuce solution in a ~2-inch piece of soaker hose slit top to bottom on one side and 3 other 1-inch slits giving a sort of stool like leg arrangment. As an apartment dweller I'm trying to save space. The seed pack says 7 to 12 days to germinate. By 12 days these things are 'hardly peeping through the dirt so to speak' so I think I'm saving a week by my experimenting. I only start 10 every week or so. Back to these cubes. The fibrous is so dense the little sprouts' root are easily crushed. I've probably bought rockwool on amazon a half dozen times at this stage (sellers come and go) and these A-OK grow media might be just fine for a larger, more boring rooted plant but for my lettuce use and method I'll be spending another $20 for something looking a little less like stonewool insulation with 90-odd of these to be used later. ... show more

  • Good product, bad packaging.
I've used Grodan cubes for a while, with no issues. They do the job and do it well. My issue with this product is the packaging. When I opened the initial package up the cubes were in no way secure and went flinging all over the floor. No biggie, but annoying nonetheless.

  • tomatoes and cucumbers did great in them
I used these to start all my veggie seeds indoors this year, tomatoes and cucumbers did great in them. Also got bell peppers, eggplants, broccoli, and spinach started with these cubes. Still waiting on some longer to germinate Asparagus seeds they may go in a bit late this year but their perennial so hopefully next year they'll get there chance again. I like these because they save me space and are less messy than dealing with soil especially since I started these indoors, as soon as I see a few roots I transplant them to solo cups and out into my mini greenhouse to start their hardening process. ... show more
