  • Light, Powerful, and Easy to Use
Size: 21" Mower (4.0Ah)
I've had a Toro push mower with a Honda engine for 17 years. It has been incredibly reliable, and I am very satisfied with it. After a long winter of inactivity, it seemed to be showing its age for the first time this year. Curious, I wondered if electric mowers had risen to the point where they had the power of a good gas mower. In my searching, I saw several recommendations for Greenworks, a brand I had never heard of before. A powerful motor was important to me, as was battery life. This 80V push mower was very competitively priced at $348.00. After comparing some other brands, I decided to give it a try. It was very easy to assemble, only requiring the handle to be set in two places. The fan noise of the battery charger surprised me a little bit, but wasn't a problem. Mowing my full 1/3 acre lawn today, I found it to be about half the effort of my gas mower. Between the weight, noise, fumes, and power, it was so much more enjoyable. The best feature might be that the mower sends more power to the blades when you get into thicker grass, which places higher demand on the battery only when needed. In thinner grass it spins down to conserve power. Compared to my old mower, I did need to place the wheels slightly inside the track of the previous pass, to ensure coverage. Not a big deal, either. If I had one complaint, it is that a second battery from Greenworks will cost me nearly as much ($300) as the mower itself ($348). There are replacements from off-brand manufacturers, but my experience with phone and camera batteries is that those are never as good as the real thing. Maybe they have sales, but that is a concern to me long-term. Electric motors have been around forever, so hopefully this will be a reliable mower and last half as long as its predecessor. ... show more

  • Make Mowing Fun Again!!!
Size: 21" Mower (4.0Ah)
Wow, what can I say?? We love this mower. I was not prepared to be this impressed with a battery powered mower, but this baby wow!!!! It mows way better than our gas mower, cleaner cut and it pushes through high/thick grass without so much as a stutter. We live on a small farm, I have a riding mower and a couple of tractors, I'm kind of a mowing nut. This mower is fun!! The push button start, wonderful <3 the ease of pushing it, it's fairly heavy, I was wondering if I should have gotten a self propelled, but no need, it's super easy to push. I also like the mechanism by which you raise or lower the blades, just one handle, it moves with ease, set it wherever you like in a flash, don't have to struggle with 4 wheels that the lever is stuck. Battery power/charge is also great, we haven't run it out yet. The charger it comes with is a quick charger and will charge the battery in about 30 min. Wish we would have gotten one of these years ago! Fantastic A+++++++++ all the way. ... show more

  • 1/2 acre my butt
Size: 21" Self-Propelled (4.0Ah) + LED Lights
Alright, this is my first electric mower. I had high hopes but was expecting to be let down to be honest. I got a bit of both. We have about 1/3rd of an acre in our backyard. I’m bad at keeping gasoline around and also not great at wintering so it’s always a pain to get it going after winter. And doing maintenance like plugs, oil, filters ect are minimal but still annoying. I figured the torque of electric would be a good benefit. Overall, I was correct. Not worrying about gas is nice. Not worrying about oil, filters, maintenance in general is also nice. GOODS: it cuts REALLY nice. Blades are super sharp. It doesn’t miss many of blades of grass. It also has a ton of torque. It still bogs in high grass but in the same areas that gas mowers would die as well. This thing probably does about 25% better than gas mowers in tall grass… but it still does bog and die. The controls are easy. Battery charges quickly. Mower is nice and quiet. I can have a conversation with a slightly raised talking voice. Compared to gas it’s very quiet. It’s nice because our dogs dislike the noise or the gasoline and also an added benefit of being able to mow when my toddler is sleeping upstairs. BADS: it says 1/2 acre, but we all know that’s at absolutel peak performance, low grass length, dry grass, probably going downhill and without the self propel. As previously stated, my backyard is 1/3rd of a yard and it didn’t even get half way through on a full battery. The yard was moderately long but nothing extraordinarily bad. The speed setting for the self propel is very slow or fast af. It infinitely adjustable but you gotta find that sweet spot but that’s a very minor inconvenience. The grass Shute opening is too small. It gets clogged quite easily. My lawn saw rain yesterday so there was some moisture but if it was WET this thing would be 100% clogged all the time. Cant say what specific mowers are better with this… my old turd John Deere was a lot larger of a Shute and never gave me issues. Overall, it’s a good mower. I definitely wouldn’t rant about it with the cost being about 20-50% higher than competitive gas options but it is a good, strong mower. I’d say I would have given it 5 stars if it came with two batteries so I could swap one in and have the other charging. I plan to buy another battery but after blowing $600 on this mower it sucks to have to buy another one right away. ... show more
