So I have never had one of these danger slicers before, and was super hesitate given my more than acceptable ability to hurt myself. Finally annoyed at my inability to cut a thin sliced tomato without injury, this one caught my eye while Amazon surfing. It comes with an anti-cut glove for starters, so safety challenged folks like me can sigh with relief. It also can cut slices, French fry cuts, and those tiny julienne cuts too. This Madeline slicer is do easy to use. You can change the slicing thickness easily and it is a real work horse. It folds for easy storage and is very well made. Changing the blades is easy as well. It is very sharp and cuts effortlessly.

I like that the thickness of the slices can be adjusted between 0 & 9mm. It also has two sizes for julienne cutting. The little legs that hold the slicer up at an angle seem pretty sturdy. It does a great job slicing softer veggies but things like potatoes or carrots require more effort to push through the blade. Regardless the whole process is nerve-racking, I use the cut resistant glove that comes with it. There's a little plastic "pusher" that comes with it, but I've never used it. I gave the product 5 stars because the product itself is wonderful. I purchased this mandolin to thinly slice potatoes for frying; kind of like potato chips. Works perfect. You can easily adjust the thickness for slicing just about anything. As other reviews have stated, be careful. The blade is VERY sharp which is why you buy gadgets like this. This comes with a "handle" to use while slicing. USE IT. I didn't and sliced the heck out of my thumb but that is my fault. Just be careful. ... show more

I had never used a mandoline food slicer before and found the manual totally inadequate to prepare me for what, if used carelessly, is a potentially dangerous product! (i.e assuming you don’t enjoy possibly slicing your fingers) Bottom line: The mandoline has 2 rectangular metal pieces, one that opens and the other fixed. I didn’t realize, until I heard on YouTube, and carefully verified on my own, that the edge of the fixed piece is RAZOR SHARP. That edge is what does the cutting. Now that I know this, I will say it is “obvious” but I didn’t know it beforehand. If you are not careful, look out. The product to its credit provides a cut “resistant” pair of gloves (darn nice) and a food holder. The product is good, the manual is not. FYI: “mandoline” and “mandolin” are English homophones. This means they are pronounced the same but have totally different items. “Mandoline”, ending with an “e”, is a food slicer; “mandolin”, without the ending “e”, is a musical instrument ... show more

I never write reviews but had to come on here to say -- if you buy this thing, please please please please please use it very carefully and PAY ATTENTION while you're using it. I obviously did not and lost the tip & side of my primary hand thumb as a result while preparing dishes for Christmas.
