This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The GoPro12 has received high praise for its picture quality, especially during vacation use and outdoor activities, despite initial concerns over ease of use and battery life during high-resolution recording. Users commend its video stabilization and the variety of features like the Quik app for remote control, customizable settings for videos, and the quality of underwater recording. However, issues with the device heating up during use and specific charging requirements highlight potential drawbacks.

Pros

  • 📸 Amazing picture and video quality, even under challenging lighting conditions.
  • 🔄 Effective video stabilization and customizable video settings for precision shooting.
  • 🔊 Quality sound recording, including underwater, with seamless transitions to above-water shooting.
  • 🎛️ User-friendly features such as voice commands, the Quik app for remote control, and folding mount tabs for easy tripod mounting.
  • 🔋 Solutions for extended battery life through external powerbanks and optimized settings.

Cons

  • 🔥 Device can heat up noticeably during use, especially when recording in high resolutions.
  • ⚡ Specific charging requirements; does not charge with lower amperage power supplies, needs a specialized charger.
  • 📱 Some connectivity issues with Wi-Fi, particularly with certain router settings.

Should I Buy It?

If you're in need of a high-quality action camera that excels in various recording environments, including underwater, the GoPro12 is highly recommended. Its professional-grade video stabilization, customizable settings, and overall performance outweigh the drawbacks related to charging and heating issues. If you can manage these aspects, it's a valuable investment for capturing exceptional video and stills.

  • Great GoPro works very well for me
The media could not be loaded. I come from a gopro hero 301 and its fantastic, well.. i should say the battery it's not like i thought in 4k 30fps lasts about 1 hour of recording but 60fps reduces tu 30-40 minutos and it's starting to get warm very warm, but the quality its great i love the stabilization and the quality of the video, normally i record in 5.3k 30fps Angular for record my trips, I have been trying the hyperview but I think it is for other uses, maybe think about buying the lens 2.0 mod to have the superview with horizon lock, which is a great feature, the hdr from the standar video its looks the same thing ( maybe if you recording with the hdr inside your car and recording in the front maybe the sky looks better ) but one solution what i found its connect a powerbank (anker) and its works! for long trips in my bike or just sequence videos. Oh i forget the automatic upload to the cloud of gopro makes the camera too hot, i think about it and maybe upload manually in browser... ---update---- 2024-02-19 The camera is fantastic, it has excellent recording and stabilization, I use it on my bicycle on the handlebars I had a problem with heating, I could only last about 45 minutes recording at 4k 60fps, now what I did was buy a battery cover that has a hole in the charger, and I connected an Anker 10k portable battery, and that's how I solved the problem of the warming up, and I can record up to 5 hours with that battery. Also with the upload to the cloud, I had problems connecting to my new ax55 archer router, I detected that it was the 160Mhz frequency that created a conflict and did not allow me to connect, what I did was lower the router to 80Mhz and it started to upload, and the heating is the same there is no way, just take out the battery and connect it there if it remains normal, but regarding the wifi I activated the 160Mhz again and it remained connected and the upload finished, I have not yet tried again to see if it goes back up without making that change in the router. ... show more

  • My favorite and #1 hiking accessory
I first used a Go Pro back in March when I went shark diving for my birthday. The place we went shark diving at loaned us each a Go Pro to use while diving. I loved it so much I went out and bought me one. I take it with me all the time when going hiking, swimming, Jeepin’, all my adventures!! One of my favorite things about the Go Pro is the ease of syncing photos. As long as you buy the protective case I truly believe it’s worth the money. I have one of the clear waterproof cases they used when we were shark diving (bought it same day I bought the camera) and that has been tested to be waterproof but I wouldn’t tru just the camera simply because of how much it costs. The sound on the camera is great. Picture quality is great as long as you face away from the sun, I’ve found every photo I’ve taken facing the sun is totally ruined and not just a glare in part of the photo. Very pleased with the quality. ... show more

  • Great Camera with One Flaw
Much of the GoPro is first class. The features are numerous and the most common are easy to get to. I'm impressed with how the Quik phone app works so far. Given that you mount the thing in ways that make it hard to get to, the voice commands and use of the Quik app to control many functions is super useful. Now to the flaw: The charging is brain-dead! This is a serious problem though not fatal. The camera needs a 2 amp power supply that is NOT included. My Macbook supply does not have the needed rating so the GoPro will not charge from it. One every other USB C device I have, the charging on a weak power supply (lump) is just slower--where the GoPro simply refuses to charge! This means you need to carry around a special lump for it! I have USB ports in my car but none will work. This is a flaw that I hope they solve in the future since there is no reason a powered off device cannot charge from a low amperage (low wattage) supply, it will just charge slower. This high amperage (wattage) charging means the device is hot to the touch when charging. It uses a lot of power so it is also hot when running. There are ways to reduce the power it uses while running and I won't fault them for this, some things just take the juice. Given that the batteries can be swapped there seems no reason to force a fast charge. There is no reasonable excuse for NOT CHARGING slower on an under-powered lump, cmon GoPro! ... show more

  • Great Motorcycle Camera
Bought this to replace an old GoPro and they have come a long way. While some complain Hero12 and 11 are almost the same, I prefer the 12 because I don’t need the GPS function. The price was good and it is very easy to use. I am not crazy about the exterior case as far as appearance, but it is excellent quality. There is a speckled paint look (not sure how else to explain it) that I am not crazy about but ultimately it doesn’t matter so I still have 5 stars. The image quality is excellent and the battery life is much better than previous models I have owned. I am tired of companies always trying to get you to subscribe to some service after paying a lot for a camera but it is optional. Over all I think this is the best action camera out there and recommend it. ... show more

  • Hot Camera. Literally.
This is my first GoPro. Great little camera, but my it runs hot, and it can burn through batteries. As for my needs, the camera is nigh perfect. I mount it with a cheap sucker mount to the glass roof of my Model Y and use it to take videos that include the infotainment panel and the road ahead. The short battery life isn't a factor, as I simply removed the battery cover and provide power from the car via its usb-c port. I used it to make 30fps and 2fps (time-lapse) movies, both of which it does well. I rarely use the online cloud service, because the videos I make have little longterm value to me. Overall I found uploading to be a very slow process, but don't know if the chokepoint was my own ISP or GoPro's service. The camera is expensive, and isn't perfect, but I'd consider buying it again if I needed another. ... show more

  • Love it.
Star trails are just amazing. I own a 9 black and love it. Now I own a 12 black and love it even more. Photos, videos and timelapse pictures are amazing. But star trails sold me right off. GoPro cameras are great.
