Change your baseline temperature which is your morning temp, my old base line was 75f and below even if it was 100f outside. The two weeks before getting this cover were very hot and sadly when we received this cover the temperature has been down 10f and has been in the 70's and 80's. Now these temps are great for life,. but in the past you would never swim as the pool was cold for the last ten years! Most of the time the temperature in the pool is warmer then the outside temperature. It is so good now I'm a little afraid when the temps get hot again, lol. My guess I will leave the cover off the pool, I dont want it too hot, yeah it's like that. Mind you my baseline increases was on cooler days then the 75f baseline going into my test, so my guess it it is even better then 5f, but expect 5f increases on morning temps week 1. Baseline Temp, day zero 75f Day 1- 76.5 Day 2- 78F Day 3- 79F Day 4- 80F Day 5 and beyond every morning temp is the NEW baseline temperature = 80F Mind you this is morning temperatures and not afternoon temps which have seen as much as 90f. We can easily count the number of times we have used our pool in the past 5 years due to the temp, we received this cover two months ago and waited a while before putting it on, and we use the pool every day boom it was that easy. We both feel embarrassed it took so long to figure this out, a heating system that costs 200 bucks and lasts three years as others report. We could never afford energy heating our pool, the prices for this is as much as our mortgage. We have a solar array for the pool, but when we dropped it from the roof to the field the pump pushes the water too fast and it is useless, so we were considering a variable pump instead of the 3 hp pump we have hanging on there now. We still may do this at some point, but it would be a choice and not necessary as we have solved the pool temperature problem, we no longer have a cold pool. Now, I am grading this on what I knew when I bought it and not grading it against other options. If I was, I might go 4 stars because after seeing the tests I see clear covers mini bubble 12mil even let more heat through. But, since the temperature of the pool has been perfect, my guess is what that would accomplish is extend the season even more with the clear option. It was easy to cut my anxiety on this was not legitimate, it could not have been easier to cut! Because the 12mil is thick, the scissors go through it very easy and the 40ft pool was cut perfectly in 5 minutes. Just go to end of coping and cut 2 inches in, lays perfectly. I cant imagine tracing it before, so not needed and I'm serious! Also, you can cut in half and it would be super easy to remove and stack. The benefits of having a kidney shaped pool, it holds the shape of the cover through jets or anything. Pro's Free Heat! Pool Chemicals last longer! Change the morning Baseline Temperature 5f or more. Morning swims! Keeps phosphates out of the Pool! Very easy to cut to form! Looks very nice! Enjoy the greatness of having a pool again, it is that simple. Makes skimmer or netting off top of water super easy, just hose off cover. Saves water -no more hose everyday running for 20 minutes how ever many gallons that is. Con's Algae, the good news here is you can use phosphate remover now and the cover keeps them away. You do have to deal with double water zone as water will get trapped on cover. Well water stains as water dries. In conclusion this cover works so well we use this pool every day when years prior there were some years we didnt even swim once because the pool was so cold. It pays for itself in one season just on chemical prices. not to mention the cost to heat a pool which is a second mortgage payment. I dont like mandates, but solar covers carry so much benefit I wouldnt mind seeing localities mandate their use if you have a pool. I would have appreciated this info sooner, we wasted ten years of cold pool ownership. And oh yeah, stupid low pricing on amazon pool covers, not only can you not get this mini bubble option in most localities, the lesser covers cost more then this higher end 12 mil. ... show more

    • Upon Further Review: Good but not Great Investment!

I live in Florida and heat my pool with a heat pump. I have used the pool cover for several weeks. The pool cover is well made and so far has been very durable. I was honestly skeptical that this would make much difference. To my pleasant surprise, it has made a big difference. Not only has it reduced the evaporation from my pool, it has reduced the temperature drop overnight significantly. The only difficulty I have is covering and removing the cover when I want to swim. It can be done by one person but two people make it much easier and quicker. (My pool has a hot tub that spills over into the pool when not in use. Because of this, I cannot simply put the cover on a roller to make covering it easier. I have to be sure to position the cover where the spill-over will not fall on the tarp.) EDIT: I have now used my pool cover for a little over 14 months. I am going to have to replace it. It has begun to degrade. The plastic is breaking up and leaving small pieces in the water. Apparently, I will need to replace it annually. It is disappointing that the product cannot hold up for a longer period. Assuming it cannot be made with an improved resistance to failing from the sunlight degradation, the company should consider a discount for an annual subscribe and save order. I have reduced my 5-star rating because of the need to replace the tarp every year. That being said, I am otherwise pleased with its performance. I like to keep my pool at at least 83 degrees. Even during the winter, I was still able to swim almost every day. I have a heat pump heater and with the pool cover, I have been able to maintain the pool temperature.
