  • No C-wire needed, works well, & looks nice
Color: Polished Obsidian
Three reasons I like this product: 1) C-Wire: I don't have a c-wire available. There are VERY few modern smart thermostats that claim to work without one. I first tried one of the others, the Sensi. It did not have any apparent easy way to determine in advance if it would work without a c-wire. It didn't work for me. The lack of an easy advance tool cost both of us time and money; a lose/lose. A wrote a well-deserved 1 star review of that product. This product does have a very easy tool to determine in advance if it will work without a c-wire. It took me literally 10 seconds to use that tool & be confident this would work. And, it does, in fact, work great without a c-wire. 2) Functionality: It comes with a remote temp sensor which is a new thing for me and a great idea. I put mine in the bedroom. It was crazy-easy to set up and I really like the simple interface letting you choose when & how you want the thermostat to use it. It says you can add more of these if you want. Programming a daily schedule is incredibly easy as is making quick adjustments to that schedule. It has all sorts of other features such as auto-adjusting based on who is home, learning your patterns & making further auto adjustments, accepting voice commands, and so on. I do not want to use any of those things. They made it very easy for me to just say "no thanks" to all of those things and still have a nice seamless experience. 3) Appearance: I hesitated to buy this product because it is round while my previous thermostat was rectangular and the wall is messed up everywhere behind the area of the old thermostat. Yes, I can patch a wall and paint it - but, no, I don't really want to if I can avoid it. It was a pleasant surprise to me that this thermostat came with an optional large faceplate that is made to cover up the bad wall in exactly my situation. I used it and it is great. Privacy is a concern but that seems to come with just about everything these days so - I don't know - just get over it? I recommend this. ... show more

  • Futuristic and Modern Style
Color: Polished Silver
This thermostat is well-built and integrated seamlessly with my Lennox system. While it doesn't offer the extensive features of some competitors (like detailed graphs or video doorbell integration), it meets my needs perfectly. Setup was straightforward, thanks to its automatic system recognition. For those with more complex setups, Nest Pro installers can access advanced programming options. However, for standard systems, this isn't necessary. I anticipate future software updates will further enhance its capabilities. ... show more

  • Other reviewers got it wrong
Color: Polished Gold
I see that several people said they sent back this thermostat only because it was not bright enough. They were too impatient. Google QUICKLY updated the software and pushed it down automatically to our thermostat so that there is now a manual way to set the brightness to the desired level. This thing is beautiful. like a piece of jewelry on the way and the adjustment ring is very smooth. Clearly this is the best version of the thermostat that Google ever made and some nice new features as well. We bought the gold version and think it looks best. ... show more

  • Terrible - won't learn correctly or stay on (Google Home is also a terrible interface)
Color: Polished Obsidian
Bought this the day it came out excited for a Gen 4 Nest to put in a new build house. Set up seemed super easy but was too good to be true, seems it didn't "learn" properly and it stopped working correctly within 36 hours (Would read "76 cooling to 72" but the HVAC system was not actually running, just the fan). It's summer in Texas and this thermostat just does not cut it. Luckily, the house is sealed up pretty well and the insulation is brand-new or we'd sweat to death. Suffered through this for a couple days thinking it was still learning and/or updating software in the background but finally gave up, deleted everything, and started over with full setup process. Seemed to work but only for a day or so. Suffered for a few more days, hoping it would be learning or figure itself out, to no avail. Deleted everything, re-did setup, again. Worked for a couple days and then didn't, again. It also forces you to setup and interface with this thermostat through Google Home which is absolutely awful compared with the old Nest app. HVAC tech came out and said NESTs were over 50% of his calls, the unit wasn't properly telling the fan or cooling system what to do. HVAC system is a brand new 16-seer Goodman system that is super simple, no variable speed fans or equipment like that; just a solid, simple system. So it was not the HVAC equipment's fault. Since we had to wait to close on the house and then went through a couple weeks and cycles of the setup process we are outside of the return window now, so that's $400 down the drains (bought the extra sensors too, for a total of four, and only two would stay registered/recognized). Will never buy a Nest again. ... show more

  • Beautiful design with some flaws.
Color: Polished Silver
My 4th Gen Nest was delivered yesterday in silver, upgraded from 3rd Gen Nest. A few first impressions: It's a beautiful device, and the mushroom-style design gives the impression that the thermostat is floating. The screen could be a bit brighter. It's often hard to see smaller and shaded graphical elements. I also preferred the 3rd gen display turning blue or red when the cooling or heating was active. But I also get Google is going for a more subtle visual style. The Farsight clock is very nice and useful, as I walk by it constantly during the day. The Google Home app is dramatically worse than the Nest app. It's fidgety and just barely intuitive with a flat and dull UI. There's also no way to access it on MacOS. Matter support for the thermostat is terrific, but there's no support for the sensors. That's a miss. I have Starling, so I'll get support in a future update, but it's pretty frustrating that they left this out. Overall, a nice but slightly flawed upgrade. ... show more
