Works really great! I found it was easy to install even by someone with no electrical experience. Responded right away even to an older unit. The program is spot on it placed a little differently on the wall than the older manual one but I’m going to just paint to cover the outline.

Pros and cons up front - more details below: Pros: - Low cost - Simple installation - User friendly programing modes - 5-2 programing for weekday-weekends - Large, legible display - Clean, modern appearance - Display can be popped off for painting Cons: - Need manual to decipher codes for initial set-up - Operates HVAC on a one degree split which increases system cycles We live in Hawaii and use this system only for air conditioning. Our ancient thermostat would no longer work in program mode and we needed a thermostat that could be programed to come on while we were away from home to utilize our photovoltaic system while we were gone rather than having excess power dumped back into the grid. The price was right on this one so we went ahead and grabbed it. The installation instructions were great and very detailed to ensure all the correct wires from the HVAC system were placed in the correct slots. The mounting system was simple and effective and I was able to uninstall the old thermostat and install the new one in about 10 minutes. Another 5 minutes of programming and we were good to go. Our old thermostat had paint all over it from tenants before we bought the home, this one has a small core that mounts to the wall and the main display easily pops off to paint for a clean paint job. We have identified only two things we do not like. First, the initial programing is done using system codes so loss of the user manual would make it impossible. Second, it runs on a one degree temperature swing so the air conditioner kicks on and off several times an hour. I would rather the thermostat allow a two degree temperature swing permitting the system to run for 20-30 minutes at a time rather than 10-15 minutes at a time. This would reduce the number of start-up high power draws and reduce overall wear on my air conditioning system. All said though, we are happy with our purchase and what we got for the money. ... show more

A thermostat functioning so well you just don't need a smart thermostat. All you have to do is to set it up to auto change between heat and cool and auto fan and that's it, it automatically switchs between them during early spring and late fall when temp can jump up and down a lot in the midwest (from 40F to 90F). A few things to remember: - When you first set up the thermostat, follow instruction closely and make sure the auto switch for cooling and heating is on. You can change it later but it takes time to find. - It's 5 and 2 days and 4 time slot setting: day, afternoon, evening, sleep so just estimate your time and set them up according to your liking. You can adjust it for comfort but keep in mind it's just temporary. Once the next set time come up, it will reverse back unless you put it in permanent hold. - Once a year or when you are going on a long trip, remember to change the battery. A dead thermostat can cause severe damage to your home AC and Heat system. And DO NOT cheap out on battery, get a quality one you know that will last. I bought a cheap battery before and it was dead in about 3 months and kept my system running so hot because it couldn't send stop signal to our furnace. I guess this is the only drawback. Once I got quality battery, Energizer, it's been running good for more than a year already. ... show more

I bought this same model at a local hardware store in 2017. I was changing the batteries and dropped it, breaking off on of the four tabs on the back that secure it. So order this one, which has the same model number, but has added characters that tell me it is a newer version somehow. The case is identical, but you can tell it has different hardware inside. The old one has a muted arcing electricity sound. You don't hear it unless you are close and listen for it. This new one has a louder "snap" when it powers on or off. I laid the old one down on my desk beside the new one to duplicate the programming. The temperature in my hall is cooler than on my desk because of my overhead light and computer nearby. The old model reacted to the 6 degrees temperature change in a couple of minute. The other stayed at the hallways cooler temp for almost 5 minutes and then it raced to within one degree warmer than the old thermostat. I put them side by side in a few locations of the house. And then I placed the new on where I had thermometers in the other rooms. I was either on the money or when not, it was only one degree higher. I decided to install it, which was super easy since the quick mount system has not changed. I have been using it for about three weeks and it seems to work dependably. It has louder contacts inside, but it's not a problem for me. You can only hear it if you are in the same room with it. ... show more
