I was looking for a thermostat which can automatically switch between cool and heat. Smart thermostats such as Nest and Amazon smart seem popular. However there are some cons to me. First, they are expensive. Second, the benefits are not significant to me since my house is occupied by us most of the time since we retired. I found this thermostat easy to install and program, but for some reason it did not work with my system. It kept turning the heat on when it should have been AC, and I did not cross any wires. I returned the item with no problem. It "may" have been a faulty unit, but I decided not to fuss with it.

I bought this to replace our 35 year old Honeywell that had failed. Much nicer looking than the old one and has a lighted display to boot! It was easy to install and program. Works perfectly. It is smaller than the old one so we needed to put a little paint on the wall before installing.

My old thermostat stopped working & this looked like a good replacement. I took a chance on buying a returned item for a lower price. The installation was easy, just had to look at the wiring on the old setup. I like that the wires are held in place by tabs & not screws like my previous thermostat. The only uncomfortable thing i had to do was go in my basement to turn the furnace off before replacing. Programming was easy but you do have to read the instructions. It has a quiet "click" sound as most of these do, when the heat turns on but you only hear it if you're right next to it. ... show more

A thermostat functioning so well you just don't need a smart thermostat. All you have to do is to set it up to auto change between heat and cool and auto fan and that's it, it automatically switchs between them during early spring and late fall when temp can jump up and down a lot in the midwest (from 40F to 90F). A few things to remember: - When you first set up the thermostat, follow instruction closely and make sure the auto switch for cooling and heating is on. You can change it later but it takes time to find. - It's 5 and 2 days and 4 time slot setting: day, afternoon, evening, sleep so just estimate your time and set them up according to your liking. You can adjust it for comfort but keep in mind it's just temporary. Once the next set time come up, it will reverse back unless you put it in permanent hold. - Once a year or when you are going on a long trip, remember to change the battery. A dead thermostat can cause severe damage to your home AC and Heat system. And DO NOT cheap out on battery, get a quality one you know that will last. I bought a cheap battery before and it was dead in about 3 months and kept my system running so hot because it couldn't send stop signal to our furnace. I guess this is the only drawback. Once I got quality battery, Energizer, it's been running good for more than a year already. ... show more

Do NOT buy this piece of junk! Yes, it is easy to install, but apparently, they send out a slew of bad ones, and will tell you that you need to call an HVAC Tech when it's the thermostat that is the issue. Installed this piece of garbage that was supposed to be compatible with my heat pump heat/ac system. Thought it was working, but then the fan would NOT turn off, even when the fan wire (green) is disconnected. Went through all the troubleshooting on the Honeywell website, and it indicated that that meant your HVAC system had a fault. My neighbors happened to have an A/C tech out, and I paid him cash to come look at my issue. He told me that this model thermostat was KNOWN to be defective too often brand new and out of the box, and told me he's suggest I pay the $50 for a different/better one before having me pay him a minimum of $100 to check out the system, especially if this issue only appeared after installing this new one.. By this time, I had passed the return window for returning the defective thermostat to Honeywell. So I had to pay more $ to order a different model. Bought the one most similar to the old one that died. Lo and behold, no issues whatsoever, and no continuously running fan. So what I got from buying this piece of garbage was an inflated power bill, a payment to an HVAC tech, and the cost to buy yet another new thermostat. I am out well over a hundred bucks b/c Honeywell does NOT say the fan issue, something apparently known to be common with this model in the HVAC community, has anything to do with this garbage thermostat, despite it being a known issue. Apparently you are rolling the dice that you will be one of the few who actually gets a good, non defective unit when you order this model. Save yourself the unnecessary expenditures and the headaches and run away, far and fast, from this terrible thermostat NOT up to the Honeywell brand reputation. Buy any model BUT this piece of non-working junk. I am SO not happy about all the $ I am out by reading the reviews that fallaciously say this is a good choice. ... show more
