Kept them entertained for much longer than I expected. Only came with 1 set of tools though so we improvised with random toy tools they thought might do the job and plastic knives. They had fun and it kept them busy! (Ages 3, 5 & 7)

    • Fun activity for kids!
These are such a fun, exciting activity for kids! Our kids loved using the tools (and a few of their that didn't come with the kit) to crack open the balls and find the gems. There are a large variety of gems included and the kids were well pleased with their treasures. I highly recommend!

    • Fun activity but...
The concept is really fun. My daughter is only 3, and the age for this item is 6+ but I thought it would be fun to do together. We sat down with two 12 year olds and my 3 year old to do the activity and even the 12 year olds found it a bit hard to do. The sand is so compacted and the tools provided are just cheap plastic, so it takes a lot of effort to really break the balls down. That having been said, everyone had fun doing it and was excited to find the stones inside. But beware, whatever they used to color the sand will stain. I have a plastic kids picnic table that we use for them to paint on etc. and that is what we used for this activity. It left a huge color stain on the table top. We did the activity outside so we could just hose things down, but the table didn't really come clean. So as long as you are prepared for that, then I think you will enjoy this kit. ... show more

7 & 9 year old were occupied for about 2hrs and loved the digging ! When they hit the gem stones they felt a sense of accomplishment and amazement! They also loved immediately going to look at thw chart to learn about their gemstone..highly recommend
