You definately need plastic or newspaper (which is a thing of the past for young adults), along with a spare container with some water to put rocks in when they find the rocks. We got this for a gift for our son’s 7th bday and he LOVED it! He got right into it and it kept him busy for a good hour or so. Every rock/gem he found was welcomed by a burst of excitement! It can get pretty messy so it’s a good outdoor project. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids under 4. The rocks can be kinda small and might need extra help from an adult or older kid.
