  • Great for Dinghy sailing-HUGE improvement: should work well for canoes
Color: Black Size: One Size
I use these to sail Laser (12 feet) and Catalina Capri 14.2 (14 feet) sailboats (dinghies). Lots of opportunities to get knees bashed or banged while tacking, or even straight line sailing in variable winds. I rarely kneel continuously, usually sitting/hiking(leaning out) most of the time, but rather the knees get banged up changing sides on the mainsail sheet pulley or the centerboard or the bottom of the cockpit on the Lasers. These are HUGE in terms of keeping the focus on the sailing and not on protecting your knees. Comfortable enough to wear without sailing overalls in warm weather, and they stay put over sailing overalls (I like the Gill or even better the West Marine sailing overalls) in colder weather. These seem like they would also work well in canoes, where kneeling is pretty much continuous (does anyone actually like making the canoe unstable by sitting in those silly chairs in the canoes?). ... show more

  • Great padding and fit
Color: Black Size: One Size
I hesitated to buy these because of the high price and some unfavorable reviews. They’re working out fine for me but one of them actually came with a small a rip. We were just about to start racing so I put them on anyway and I had no problems with the fit. It stinks that they were ripped by someone else and then resold to me. ... show more

  • A real knee-saver
Color: Black Size: One Size
I've had bad knees since junior high. limiting the kinds of activities I can do. Sailing has been great, until I started racing. Sailing hard tends to bang one around and, especially on smaller boats, you're gonna whack your knees or at least need to be kneeling to trim sails and check for traffic on the low side of the boat. I bought these after another fellow of a similarly certain age swore by them. He was absolutely correct. Despite the fact these are not all that bulky, they protect very well. I banged around on several boats of varying sizes (24' to 35') during races and my knees were great. I've worn them over jeans (don't judge, it was a last-minute thing), Under Armour (best), and on bare skin. They stay in place and don't constrict. Best of all, I never had them slide out from under me on the boat. If you're even remotely serious about either knee protection or sailing, choose these instead of some dime-a-dozen generic kneepad. TIP: The first two times I wore them I over tightened them and got irritation on the back of the knee. You can keep these very loose and they will stay in place. Also try angling both bottom straps down away from the back of your knee in a 'V' shape if you're still being pinched. ... show more

  • one size fits many
Color: Black Size: One Size
I got these to protect my knees in case of falls on rocky trails. They are not super protective but also not too constrictive. I plan to use them. The one-star demerit is because although they are advertised as "one size fits all" I think they should provide strap length info. I am not a large person but I would not want the thigh one to be much shorter. A strongly built man or person with very large thighs might have trouble with it. Follow up: They worked really well pn relatively hot hikes in Hawaii. I never fell, but using them was reassuring. They are not overly hot or constrictive but again, one size may not fit all. ... show more

  • Comfortable
Color: Black Size: One Size
I use them for sailing which makes it easier to kneel down to do something

  • Lasted less than a year
Color: Black Size: One Size
I loved these when I first got them, but now they’re falling apart. While I will admit I have gotten a lot of use out of them, it is disappointing that Gill makes a project that has such a short lifespan. Most of my sailing gear is made by Gill and I love every piece I have. But these were made poorly and won’t last long. Disappointing for Gill. ... show more

  • just the right amount of padding, easy to get on and off
Color: Black Size: One Size
I race sailboats several days a week, and crawling around the deck was brutal on my knees. This is the third brand I have tried, and so far they are working the best.

  • Didn’t work for me
Color: Black Size: One Size
I’m giving a three star only because they just didn’t work for me so I can’t give it an honest review.
