I think Gilbralter got the message from its customers that shipping this mailbox just in the box it comes in, is not enough to survive a USPS or UPS trip. I read a lot of reviews that people were receiving their boxes damaged and had to return them. Mine came to me inside the original box packed inside an Amazon box with large bubble wrapping. I'm happy to report it arrived safe and sound. I also read a review (or two) about the door not staying closed. Mine had the same issue, but it's a very simple fix. With a pair of pliers, GENTLY put some downward pressure on the topside of the door. Too much pressure and the door will be difficult to close & open. It only takes a minute or two to get it right! Installation was a breeze. I simply removed the screws from my old mailbox, and reused them to install this one. It took me a total of about 5 minutes to do. This box is sturdy enough to withstand the elements and will last for years. It's a very good value! ... show more

Box replaced a 29 year old box in same brick stand. Removed flag and had mason complete the installation. The door would not stay closed. Glued a rubber cap ( extra from closet wire shelf installation) over box door latch and used 3/32” wire ties as bottom bearings on each side of door bottom. Door now closes firm and can be positioned in partial opening positions. ... show more

    • Looks nice, but the door doesn't close very well

This is a very nice looking mailbox. That being said, the door doesn't close tightly, so if it gets very windy, it sometimes blows open. I'm going to try and glue a piece of foam or something into it to see if that helps any.

The installation was fine no material issues. The door for the mailbox did open several times after it was closed. If you gently tap around the edge of the metal door it will become more secure.
