  • Extremely high-quality craftsmanship
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I must say I am quite pleased with this purchase. I have tried many other heat guns before that just did not pack the punch that this one has. This has dual temperature settings for 750 w. And 1500 watt basically 572 degrees Fahrenheit and 1000 degrees Fahrenheit. It comes with four tips that can be used for many different things including paint scraping, applying heat shrink, and wood burning. This does not appear to get overly hot in the handle and base. it does seem to be quite contained to the tip. It does have a seat which is flat against the back so it will not catch anything on fire when it's not in use. This does come with a pretty decent instruction manual. In regards to the tips they seem to fit extremely snug and take a little bit of effort to actually get removed which is great because you don't want them flying off while it's in use. This gun is made in China but backed by a company here in the United States. This product does conform to UL standard 499 . I am surprised on how high quality this actually is for a Chinese product. Most of them are cheap look cheap and are made out of cheap materials with this product you can tell that there was a lot of thought and workmanship behind the quality of this item. It is not overly heavy and does have a decent feel to it. It does have a very powerful blower in it which was another thing I was quite surprised about. Although I have only use this twice I will say that it does heat up rapidly quick which you would expect from any heat gun and does cool down relatively quick. Check back in about a month and I will update this review regarding its longevity and my opinion on if it will be worth it to use as a daily use or even by daily use heat gun. So far I am quite impressed with this unit and I am giving it 5 Stars across the board. As I am using this as a daily use heat gun I am going to put it through extreme test as most of the use is going to be for wood burning and applying heat shrink ... show more

  • Works well for price
Style: Corded Heat Gun
Very nice that it comes with different tips to use. Heats up quick and is easy to hold. Although holding it with one hand can be tiring because it does have a little weight to it.

  • Good soldering heat gun
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I use this heat gun for shrinking heat shrinks. While it is a bit overkill, it heats up pretty fast and I switch it off as soon as the tubing shrinks. I don't use any of the tips other than the default attached one, so I can't speak about that, but for what I use it for, it is great, and cheap!

  • Better Than Expected--But One Caution!
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I had to solder some cables to 120V cooling fans. These connections must be insulated for safety, but I just can't stand gooey electrical tape. I had heat-shrink insulating tubing, but my old heat gun died. Using matches or a lighter makes for a poor application. Since I don't do much of this work anymore, I wanted a cheap replacement, and I wanted a few nozzle attachments to control the heat better. This gun is inexpensive but not cheap. It looks and feels like a tool several times the price. It produces enormous heat at its 1500W High setting; Genesis claims you can sweat-solder plumbing pipes with it. Be careful! I'll probably use the 750W Low setting for everything. The nozzle attachments are a heavier gauge than expected and fit securely. Definitely not cheap-feeling. I like the design feature that lets it lie securely on its back on a workbench, aiming up so you can manipulate the work with two hands if needed. Cons: The seam at the front of the handle is a little uncomfortable. I'll probably file it smooth. No big deal. Caution: I saw quite a lot of white smoke coming out of the gun after couple of minutes of use; it smelled like hot production residues (oil, insulation, paint, etc.) coming off. It billowed out the shell of the gun like some movie prop, but diminished quickly and was completely gone after about 5 minutes of running. It is perfectly normal, though this gun's enormous heat output gave it the Oscar for best short duration fume production by a non-smoke grenade I've ever seen. I bet many buyers return these guns after seeing the smoke. It would have been wise for Genesis to "burn it in" at the factory. Had I no experience with the smell of real fires and burned electrical parts, I might have dropped it and breathlessly called 911 from the driveway. I suggest you "burn it in" outdoors or near a window so you don't smell up the house. As Douglas Adams would say: Don't panic! ... show more

  • Automotive exterior plastic restoration
Style: Corded Heat Gun
I bought this knowing that it would be used for many different applications, but the immediate one was to restore the plastic cladding on my Chevy Avalanche which had faded into a dull grey, and stuck out like a sore thumb with the factory black paint. I saw youtube videos that showed that this was far more effective than buying and applying liquid lies. I couldn't for the life of me find anything in my garage to hang this thing on, so I knew the error of my ways when I could smell my trash bin lid melting. Be sure to have a hook or nail to hang this on, so that you don't destroy the first thing you set this on like me. It's light, it's really light, I didn't expect it to work, I looked inside the box for the rest of it. But sure enough, it made me a believer. It has two settings, Hot, and Really Hot. I used the Really Hot setting for the plastic cladding, and followed a swirling pattern like my Master Miyagi instructed me to. The results are in the pictures I am attaching to my review. This can easily be used for other plastic parts on various vehicles, but test in a small area which you can really mess up and not get yelled at by the wife because it looks dumb. A heat gun has many purposes, tinting windows, shrink wrapping/window sealing, removing caulk, loosening glued on items, and as you can see, automotive plastic restoration, done mostly sober. I hope you enjoyed this review, and if you found it helpful, let me know. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it. ... show more
