  • Great results after you learn. Top coat useless.
Let me start by saying that I am not a nail technician, therefor I wanted to leave room for error. I bought this about a month and a half ago and wanted to get the hang of it before I rated it. I have now used it three times and I love it, but I had to learn the system and figure out the best way to do it for me and which products from the set I needed and didn’t need. The first time was on the natural nail and it was a horrible mess. The nails ended up thick and resembled bubble nails. The second time I used tips and followed the directions for the tips. It was better but still not exactly what I wanted. I followed all the steps and had a lot of difficulty with the top coat, which was the same problem I had with the first set I did. After the first coat of the top coat, I would let thm dry and then added the second coat, which was recommended. The coat never dried! Whether I used the solution to clean the top coat or not, they would stay gooey on some parts of the nail or they would dry down matte but soft on the surface. Honestly, the top coat is garbage. I ended up buffing it off the second set and just leaving them matte. I did three layers of powder for the first two sets, so they were quite thick. Third time was the charm, ladies. This time I only did two layers on my natural nail and I made sure to dust off all excess powder extra carefully so that there was no additional thickness. I followed every step to the letter until it got to the top coat. I threw it out and just buffed my nails instead. I left them matte again because I actually like the finish. These nails are not thick at all and they look classy. I now know how I like to do them and will be doing them this way in the future. From start to finish, this last set took me 40 minutes, including the prepping of the nails and the buffing of the final product. I should should also add that I did my cuticles during this time, so that’s why it took a bit longer. I didn’t have any problems with the caps sticking closed or anything, but I can see that possibly happening with the base coat, as it has the strongest scent to it and I think it smells pretty close to some kind of glue. Maybe super glue? I wouldn’t be surprised but it doesn’t smell any worse than a salon so I don’t mind too much. Just don’t do your nails in a closed room. Overall, I recommend this product. I just wish it didn’t come with this absolutely useless topcoat. It really is trash. I would have preferred a fourth powder to that top coat. ... show more

  • Great at-home dip manicure
I waited three months to write a review, so I could give longer term feedback. I really love this product. You do have to be careful and follow the directions. I’ve done six manicures with this set. I have purchased one additional color and had to replace the top coat (I flew with this set and the top coat leaked all over). I do clean the base and top coat brushes every use in the brush cleaner, which really seems to keep them from getting gunky. Also, I let the base and top coat brushes sit in their bottles without closing it fully for about 20 minutes. This has kept the tops from sticking to the bottle necks. The first manicure was a little sloppy, but all others have looked professional (really only use the base coat on 3/4 of nail, not the whole thing), and I’ve gotten loads of compliments (and I am not at all coordinated!!). Each dip has lasted almost exactly two weeks before they start to pop off (mine do “pop off” whole, like fake nails, I’ve only had to soak off once when I changed colors before the two weeks). My salon dips usually last 4-5 weeks before they’ve grown out and need to be replaced. The fact that I can complete my own manicure at home in 20-30 minutes has justified not getting salon manicures. I hope to keep replenishing and using this kit for years. I very much prefer it to the salon. I do wish there were more colors, or smaller jar color “kits” like you can get with regular polishes. Over time, I’ll add to my color collection. Each jar seems like it will last me forever. As for the colors in the kit-the pink doesn’t work for me at all-it’s just doesn’t work with my complexion. The red is beautiful and I use the clear as a base for darker colors. I’d highly recommend this kit and look forward to using it for a long time. ... show more

  • Loved it the first few times.. becomes hard to open later
Original review- 12/17/18 Love this system! It pays for itself in the first few uses. This was my first time trying to gelish dip brand, and had no issues! It’s so simple to use, and turns out flawlessly! I’ve tried so many other brands dip systems and none of them were as good as Gelish! They are also the only brand that has a more variety of colors to choose from! It comes with everything you need in order to get a perfect set every time. I especially love that it comes with a clear powder as a first layer for like a “base” for darker colors, so your nails don’t get stained! ***UPDATE*** 2/2/19 I’ve had this kit for a few months now. I still like it. However, it seems that after the 3rd to 4th use the base coat gets thicker. I’m not sure if it just get thicker over time being mexposed to air, but it’s becomes harder to work with. It doesn’t apply as thin and seamless as the first few times, it’s pretty thick and clumpy making the powders ball up on your nails. I’m still able to work with it. But kind of a pain. Also noticed that the thicker the base comes, it seals itself shut. Making it impossible to get open. I had to basically put pliers to the lid to get it open. First couple times doing this, it came right open with the pliers. Not a big deal. However, I tried to use it again last night and the lid was completely sealed. Even the pliers wouldn’t open it! My husband has to basically destroy the lid to get it open. If this keeps happening, it is definately not worth it. I’m not sure what’s happening with the base coat. The top coat did the same thing with the lid. ... show more
