  • I am new happy GE Microwave Convection Oven owner.
I recently bought this GE Profile Convection Microwave & Convection Oven without reading any of the reviews prior to purchasing. After buying it I then saw how many of the reviews describe horrible experiences and I wondered what I was getting into. Many of the other reviews on microwave ovens as well that I read also seemed troubling. There are apparently many unhappy owners. I have used my new oven and I am very happy GE Profile PEB9159SJSS 22" Countertop Convection/Microwave Oven in Stainless Steel I have used microwave ovens over the past 40 years and I likee all of the units I owned or have experienced. Prior to this purchase I owned a similar GE microwave for 15 years. It worked fine for all those years but it was beginning to show wear on some the interior painted surfaces. I thought time for it to be replaced. Recently it developed rusty spots on the interior walls of the cooking chamber. I wanted to get a replacement have a nice stainless steel interior that would stay free of any rust. I saw that I could get this newer GE Profile model that not only had a stainless interior but nicely operated with very similar button operations to my old unit. In addition it included new options in the form of an overhead broiler as well convection baking and normal baking cooking modes. I thought these new features would be nice additions for me. I have experience in using convection ovens in a bigger built-in oven. However, for most of my every day uses this smaller microwave oven size is perfect. Not to small and not too big. I have a digital toaster and I would not make toast in anything but the toaster. Just as I would not make hot chocolate or melt butter in any anything but the Microwave. Different tools for different jobs. I have used the built in humidity sensor microwave cooking mode for warming up my coffee. So far everything has worked just fine and I am glad that was not scared away by the many reviews. If my opinion changes dramatically I will come back an update this review. ... show more

  • It lasted 3 years
My 3 year + 3 month old GE Profile PEB9159SJSS just died. This is my third and last GE microwave/convection oven. The first one latest roughly 20 years and was great! The second one was given to me used, so when it died after a year, I decided not to blame GE and bought my current one. After about 10 months, the glass on my new GE unit started fogging between the glass panes anytime we used the microwave. We called GE, and they said that was normal because water turns to steam. I won't bore you with our discussions, but the bottom line is, they wouldn't do anything about it. After about 16 months, we started seeing some of the sealing material between the panes of glass and called GE again. They sent out a tech who told us that was sealing material, and just kept the glass from fogging. He said it tested for any microwave leaks and found none, so the microwave worked fine, it was now out of warranty, and this was just cosmetic. He said he could change the door for $300+. I said I'll live with it until it dies. The "cosmetic" problem continued to get worse. I won't bore you with our discussions with GE about our previous complaints about this very problem when it was still under warranty. After about 3 years we noticed that the turn table would turn anytime you opened the door, but it would stop when you closed it, and otherwise the microwave worked properly. After 3 years and 3 months, the microwave stopped heating with the microwave function. These last two problems are obviously unrelated to the glass seal problem. I see this as solid evidence that this unit was poorly made. The electronics in this unit should have lasted more than 3 years, and the glass seal should have lasted for the life of the unit. And this isn't even a cheap microwave. I'll be looking for a different brand for the replacement. ... show more
