I got the Garmin Drive 51 USA LM. After some research I learned the LM stands for lifetime maps. I thought something was wrong with it when I first plugged it into the computer with the included usb cable because I couldn’t get anything to really come up like it should. I then realized it was because the battery was completely drained. I left it for several minutes, ( it was still charging because computer was still on) then it all started working like it should. I did an update and then took it off the computer and continued to charge with the same usb cord plugged into an outlet. I then set up ( inside the house ) my settings, which included avoiding tolls and highways ( also there was an exclusion for ferries). I chose to save those settings because I hate interstates. I was then able to find my trip location and save it ( there is a mini sd card slot if you need more room), all from inside the house. I also went ahead and saved my home address. I used the included cigarette plug charger to hook it up inside the car. I took the 3 hour trip. The GPS never failed me. It gave me great directions. This was very easy and correct. It wasn’t overly priced. If you want a good general GPS this one will be great. Very satisfied. ... show more

Got this gps for moving. I plugged it into the PC and updated it. I figured I’d test it at work... I love it. So... boss can text me an address or a client can call and this thing still tells me where I’m going. Which is nice having it separate from my phone. Through the app you can send the address by copying and pasting from your texts, or your phone’s contacts. I love this feature. This thing works in both Alaska and the lower 48. I tested it down in Pennsylvania and New York also. No issues. Even gave pretty accurate construction zone info. The bad: the address feature on this is weird sometimes. Like if you’re going somewhere on the other side of the state, but there’s another store closer (like a specific dealership, but there’s a chainsaw dealer closer to you...), it automatically inputs the closer store. Not the end of the world though. You just have to manually enter the address instead of syncing it. Sometimes. It also will give you some weird routing. Like making the lefts to make a right. Sometimes. The other thing is the traffic does link from your phone and the app. Which is good and bad. If you have a GPS because you’re in an area with poor cell phone service, well, that feature is no good, right Garmin?... But overall I like this device, and I’m happy I went with it. Keep it updated, and learn its quirks before you need to use it, and I’m sure you’ll be happy you have it. I’m rating it at four even with the quirks because of its usefulness and ease of use. ... show more

It's worked good for me, several years. Even manufactured, a cover and used a lot on my motorcycle. Now I'm older and blinder, I'm going to check if I can, find one with the larger screen, for the SUV and use this in the jeep.

I've had good experiences with a few previous Garmin GPS units. This one, too, has nice features and software. What drove me nuts today was trying to mount it. The plastic pieces are flimsy and insecure. The round disc that's supposed to hold the unit wouldn't stay in the back of the device. I tried to stabilize things with some polyurethane glue but everything came apart in my hands. As I said, this isn't my first GPS but the first where the plasticware (definitely not "hardware") seems to be from a Dollar Store clearance bin. Because I tried to glue it together, I can't return it. So I have to invent and fabricate some kind of bracket to hold the unit. Not easy because its rear surface is curved in 4 directions. If Garmin would make it shaped more like a cellphone, it wouldn't be so hard to attach. So far, I'm aggravated by this device. ... show more

This is a great GPS. The only drawback is the battery life. Only lasts about half an hour or so.
