  • Great little camera with good video.
Style: Dash Cam Mini 2
I have the 140 in my truck and love it. It has a screen for viewing. This mini is perfect for my new car for its size and ease of mounting. I have one facing forward and one in the rear. My car is an ioniq 5 limited with 6 built in cameras that you can not download or store video from. So you have to mount dash cameras next to installed cameras. Ugh. Fortunately, this mini is small a d easy to mount in tight places. The front camera is on the passenger side of the rear view mirror mount. The rear camera is just below the rear viewing camera where it is hard to see the camera but has a great view. I had best buy install both cameras. Front camera is being powered from the 12 volt accessory outlet under the dash, centerline next to bluelink port. Not hardwired. Rear camera is powered from 12 volt accessory outlet, driver side back left corner of the boot area. There is a good OBD2 dual usb power plug available from garmin with a selectable power type. Power for 10 minutes after shutdown, 24 hours, or continuous power. I. Ight switch to that but that would mean a long cord for rear viewing. I put in a 256g card for storing video. After 1,500 miles I still haven't filled the card. Make sure you use the garmin recommended card type. Trust me, it makes a difference. My only issue is the constant red light. Thankfully, I can not see the forward one from the drivers seat and the rear viewing one is not in my rear view due to my rear view mirror is actually a video view from the car's rear camera just above my garmin one. Flawless integration with App. If you really need to download video take the card out of the camera and download directly to phone, tablet or computer to save time. Downloading with App takes forever. ... show more

  • Excellent camera but with one caveat
Style: Dash Cam Mini 2
The camera is great. I like the small size and the quality of the video. The one caveat is if you're using multiple cameras (i.e. front and rear) you'll find that it's a bit of a challenge to combine them later. The Drive app does allow you to export a picture-in-picture view of the two cameras but it's agonizingly slow to export the video to your phone. If you only plan on doing that for a short clip of an event then that may not be a major issue. The other option is to pull the memory cards (one in each camera) and use a video editor on your PC or Mac to create a video with both views. The main challenge is that the video files from the two cameras are not in sync so there's a bit of an offset that you'll need to account for in your video editor. In my case it was a number of seconds. The video from the rear camera starts a few seconds later than the front camera. That was my experience using iMovie on my Mac. Once you realize that the offset is there it's not that difficult to align the two videos in the editor close enough that it's not noticeable. It's just an extra step that takes a little time. I'm not planning on making a bunch of dash cam videos so it's not enough for me to switch to anther camera option. Another thing to consider is that each camera needs its own power source. Every camera comes with a 12V adapter (cigarette lighter adapter) that has two USB ports so you can actually connect both cameras to one adapter. If you plan on hard wiring two cameras you'll need two hard wire kits and both will need to be connected to a power source. If you're buying one of these, I would recommend that you also buy the polarized lens filter offered by Garmin. That substantially reduces the reflection from the dash that will show up in your video. This is not unique to this camera. I would recommend a polarized filter for any dash cam. A rear facing camera may be different. If you're adding a second camera in the back window I would wait until you see how it looks before buying a second polarizing filter. It may not be necessary. Finally this is a great option if you need more than two cameras. The Drive app can manage up to 4 cameras (I assume that's per vehicle) which may be a nice feature for something like a motorhome where you may want views out of the sides of the vehicle. ... show more

  • Small size, decent video
Style: Dash Cam Mini 2
I liked the ease of set up of the camera. However, the app could be better. After an Apple iOS update, I had to delete and set up the cameras I own again as the app didn’t keep the settings for the cameras and would no longer connect to them. The cameras still worked and saved video to the SD cards, but I wasn’t able to access the video on my phone until I set them up again. A little irritating. The best part of the camera is its small size. It hides behind my rear view mirror so I don’t see it all the time. The video quality is decent and has come in handy after witnessing an accident. Overall happy with the Garmin Mini 2 and would buy it again. ... show more
