The weight of the ball is too much to swing on the flimsy metal pole they give you, it bent every place it screwed together after a couple hits from 2 year olds. Buying the ball and a steel fence pole from Lowe’s separate would be cheaper and way stronger than this.

I am always looking for new things to put outside to keep the foster dogs entertained. Most of the time, they will not play by themselves, and prefer you to play tugs or run them around with the flirt pole. I saw videos of dogs playing with a tetherball, and they would run around and chase that tetherball until they almost dropped from exhaustion. It never occurred to me to put up a tetherball pole in the dog run, but after seeing those videos, I started looking for one that would work for us. This one here looked like it was very well made and appeared very sturdy. The heavy duty steel pole feels very strong, and the five prong base that the pole sets into looks like it will hold solidly in the ground. The rubber tetherball comes uninflated, but the set includes a pump to get the ball into playing condition. It is the third week of February, so it is still winter, and temperatures here on the East Coast have been solidly in the 40's for the last few weeks. The ground is still frozen here, so it will be a while until it is warm enough to be able to put anything in the ground. Once we are able to install this tetherball pole in our dog run, I will be happy to take a video of the dog playing with it and post it here for all to see. ... show more

    • The Ball is Nice, but the Pole is Junk

I have three boys ages 6 and under. I ordered this for them to use in our back yard. The pole only lasted a couple hours before a pole section snapped in half. So, I shortened it by one section, shortened the tether and they went after it again. About 30 minutes after making the first repair, the weld to the tether ring at the top of the pole broke off. The tether ball actually seems to be pretty nice and the tether rope is nice as well. As a package, I would honestly look for something different. I had high hopes that this would work well enough for little kids, but there really isn't any way around the sectioned pole. Even if it was thicker, you would have to glue or Loctite the screwed ends together to keep them from loosing up. Also, the way it mounts into the ground is not all that stable. The second set of forks goes over and perpendicular to the fixed forks and the slots on the second fork are too large. Give the ball a wack and the pole starts to wiggle those forks loose immediately. ... show more

The plus side is I have a tether ball in my back yard. The down side is no matter where I place it, it still wobbles getting looser over time. The pole itself screws together in multiple sections. The bottom pole piece never fully tightened, instead it went over the top of the spikes warping out of place. This set will work for little kids but older elementary ages will be too strong for it. Bad design mixed with cheap materials. We got maybe a total of 30 mins of playing before the pole broke in half. Also, while playing you had to continually tighten the screwed together pole pieces. Didn't seem to matter how tight you think you could get it, it would still wobble.

This tether ball set is keeping the kids happy in their own yard. It is easy to put together. The needle for inflating the ball is inside the pump handle. We had some problems at first because of the ground condition in the area where we wanted to set it up. At our old place we had one with the pole set in cement- which has both advantages and disadvantages. After some debate, this time, we put bags of sand around the base. If your soil is more compact than ours, or if your players are less rowdy, you won't need to do anything but stick it in the ground. The set can be moved to different locations or taken to the park. The poles screw together very easily for a secure fit and they give you plenty of rope for the ball and provide a pump. The ground anchor is very secure and I'm sure this is going to provide many hours of endless fun for my kids over the summer.
