Features

  • 1x 96-page mini Core Rules: Learn your way around the brand new Kill Team with this tome of clear, concise rules for matched play, open play, and narrative play missions.
  • 1x 56 page Recruit book: Discover the background behind the kill teams included in the box, including rules for fielding them in games of Kill Team and a host of missions set designed to teach you the core principles of Kill Team, before a Next Steps section which provides a helpful guide to building on and expanding your Kill Team experience.
  • 22x Citadel Miniatures: Two full kill teams of Veteran Guardsmen and Ork Kommandos form the heart of war zone Octarius, each featuring a wide array of customisation and alternate assembly options. Extra detail parts allow for deep personalisation of your kill team, with many models able to be assembled as multiple different kinds of operative.
  • 6x Kill Team Barricades and 6 pieces of Ork terrain: Scenery is a key part of Kill Team, and the rusted Ork scrap gives players a quick way to learn the terrain rules, while barricades are integral to the setup of each battle.
  • 3x Combat Gauges: The new edition of Kill Team uses a simplified measurement system to create fast, dynamic games. These combat gauges feature the new systems symbols and are perfect for slotting into narrow gaps between operatives when a regular tape measure would be too cumbersome.

Top Amazon Reviews

  • Great value for the price
As far as I know, Amazon has the best pricing on this item. The box set itself comes with a ton of materials, including two kill teams, all the kill team support tools, and terrain and books. All of the materials are superb quality.

  • A great way to get into KillTeam
It’s a great price for two full Kill Teams, rules, all the tokens needed to play. You will need to eventually need to pick up more terrain but this is perfect to start.

  • First time hammer guy
Bought this a few weeks back and instantly can relate to the dudes who got piles of these minis just sitting around. It’s such an overwhelming thing to get into but the quality of the minis are solid, nothings missing or broken, and was shipped timely! Probably won’t be getting deeper into the war gaming hobby but still a solid buy! ... show more

  • New to the Hobby, full review experience - Good as a Standalone Casual Game.
TLDR: Great as a standalone casual game BUT if you enjoy it (and like the two teams) you will likely have wished you splurged and bought the full Octarius set for the full rules. Recommend: Build all the Specialists in the Starter Set vs the "basic" Boyz/Troopers/Gunners (you'll end up with a few regardless) Full Disclosure - Brand new to 40K, Kill Team, and miniature gaming hobby in general. I got to experience a 750 point "full" 40K learning game with a friend recently. While I enjoyed that experience I didn't love that after 2 hours we were barely halfway done. Enter Kill Team - faster gameplay, easier list building, and "cheaper to get into." Timing wise this Starter Set had just been released: "Perfect" I thought and bought it thinking the full $200 Octarius Set was too much of a risk to start with in case I didn't like it. As someone looking to "try" this with as small a commitment as possible here is what I found: Important to know: A Roster is all of your operatives available for your Kill Teams (max: 20ish) A Kill Team is comprised of 1-2 Fire Teams depending on Factions Fire Teams can have 5+ Operatives (models) depending on the Factions Pro's: 1) The Kommando and Death Korp Kill Teams are currently very competitive so if you enjoy them you can take them to a tournament and have a chance. 2) You get a full Kommando KILL TEAM (build ALL the Specialists) ready for competitive play (You technically get a full Death Korp KILL TEAM (build ALL the Specialists) but not entirely if you want options for competitive play). 3) Core Rules are in a more pocket size book (easier for travel) and cut out the "fluff/lore" from the full rulebook. This includes rules, Tac Ops, Spec Ops, and Critical Missions Pack for narrative play. 4) Plastic is top notch and highly detailed. The scatter terrain can easily fit in other miniatures games (ex - Gaslands). 5) "Recruit Edition" book is a great "handheld" introduction to Kill Team. As a brand new miniatures player this was indispensable to me for learning the high level rules AND then the advanced rules (ex - unique Operative or weapon rules like "Blast X". A series of 4 missions break down the basic move, shoot, terrain, and line of sight rules combining them all together in the final fourth mission. Con's: 1) While you get the full "Core Rules", you DO NOT GET the full KILL TEAM codex rules for Kommando's & Death Korp Krieg. The "Recruit Edition" book calls out that you will need to buy the "Kill Team: Octarius" codex. 2) The "Recruit Edition" DOES NOT explain what a proper Kommando OR Death Korp Krieg Kill Team List can be - it merely provides you some sprues and recommendeds operatives for the 4 "Recruit Edition" missions but you can build what you want and potentially have to spend MORE money to build a competive team if you don't research this upfront (build ALL the Specialists). 3) Similar to Item 1 - the Data Cards for the operatives in the "Recruit Edition" book refer you to the "Kill Team: Octarius" codex for various abilities (again missing full codex rules for teams). 4) You get a paper game mat which seems durable enough but it is still subject to tears. 5) The Model building instructions ASSUME you know what things are. There are no labels for which weapons are which and the "Recruit Edition" book nor the "Build Instructions" explain what you can/cannot build with the included sprues in a simple list. It merely shows photos of options without explaining anything more than the Operative name. As someone new to Warhammer in general an appendix would have been nice vs having to constantly Google things. While not the end of the world, it certainly added complexity to something aimed at getting people into the game. 6) Death Korp Krieg team does not include enough models to field a fully competitive team with options. You often have to choose to build a Specialist (recommended) OR a "basic" Trooper/Gunner and then if you enjoy them buy a second box (for $55) to build a full list of options. Value Comparison: As you will see below the "value" of the full Octarius set comes with the ability to truly expand the game with full rules and codex. So while the price "savings" isn't that much different it does save you from having to buy the $40 "Kill Team: Octarius" codex later on eating into the Starter Set Value. Value Comparison if bought individually: *all prices based on GW website retail pricing. Finding it cheaper will save you more* Starter Set Includes ($100): Vet Guard Kill Team - $55 Ork Kommando's Kill Team - $60 KT Essentials - $35 KT Core Rule Book - $50 KT Scatter Terrain (this isn't standalone, so reviewing GW website just picked the "cheapest" terrain set option, but this is part of the Mekboyz Workshop set) - $34 Total Value: $234 Retail Price Savings: $134 Still Missing for Full Game: "KT Octarius" Codex: $40 REAL Savings for Full Game: $134 (Savings) - $40 (Codex) = $94 Octarius Box Set Includes ($200): Vet Guard Kill Team - $55 Ork Kommando's Kill Team - $60 Tac Ops Cards - $18 KT Essentials - $35 KT Octarius Codex - $40 KT Core Rule Book - $50 KT Octarius Killzone (includes scatter terrain and larger pieces) - $100 Total Value: $358 Retail Price Savings: $158 Still Missing for Full Game: Nothing ... show more
