So I wanted to like this machine. Set it up and spend an hour between putting it together, getting it situated, installing & activating a filter, and running about 10 drink cycles before the espresso looked right, and the pucks were forming OK. I don’t mind the setup if it’s hassle-free later on, but this machine looks needy. I was also hoping to have good control on the drinks, but while you can customize the amount of “coffee” that comes out in each drink, that’s just adding or subtracting the amount of water dispensed while making the espresso going into the drink. You can’t customize and say 2 shots of espresso…. Also no profiles for different people. So my wife likes a large cappuccino with 3 espresso shots. The only way to do it right is to do the milk froth, eyeball it to where you want it because it’s more than the max the machine allows, then do an espresso shot, then do 2x espresso shots. So need to fully supervise and manually kick off each step. Then for me, I like a more traditional cappuccino. That worked OK, but had to play with the espresso and coffee amounts because the default was too weak and cold. Finally, and the reason for 1 star, is that after 2 days of use, it started telling me the carafe was not inserted when making milk drinks. Seems like the sensor is too sensitive, and I have to put pressure on the milk carafe to get the machine to realize it’s there. If I don’t it won’t continue to the brew stage. If I do and stop, the drink cancels mid brew as shown in the pictures attached. ... show more

    • Beware of user errors leading to “issues” - this machine is fantastic
First off, I love this machine, it does what it advertises. The main reason for this review is to debunk some others who claim issues when in fact they are more the issue than the coffee maker. For example the milk carafe - it goes in one way, and one way only. Trying to put it in backwards (I admit it’s not totally obvious at first which way is correct) will lead to exactly the type of “issue” mentioned in reviews about it not locking in place. Put it in correctly, and surprise surprise it works correctly. While a “super automatic”, don’t expect it to be super simple or there to be no maintenance - yes it makes the drinks on auto pilot, but not all the cleaning too. My advice is to take 10 minutes to read the manual, and save yourself from being an uninformed and unsatisfied user of this machine. Machine is great. ... show more

    • Overall a good machine, but automatic has caveats
I have had this almost two years and it gets heavy use every day. Overall I am happy with this product but there are a few things I wish I had known: - Coffee & espresso are a weaker and less flavorful compared to manual or semi-auto brewers. I think this is probably true for most automatic machines and probably comes down to the puck being under-compressed - You will need to maintain this frequently to avoid mold and gross tasting coffee. For my household (2 heavy coffee drinker) this means cleaning the internals every 2 weeks (~30 minutes), descaling the elements and cleaning the grinder every ~1-2 months (you will need their solution + grinder tablets + ~1-2 hrs) and re-lubricating the internals every ~4 months (can be done during cleaning with lubricant.) This is MUCH more maintenance compared to a manual or semi-auto machine. This is probably true for most automatics that have internal grinders. - This uses a lot of coffee, much more than a manual or semi-auto machine in my experience, and the hopper is hard to refill (similar to the water you need access from above.) The hopper is also a little too shallow which means the beans don't always slide into the grinder (if you are quick you can open the lid and correct it before the machine notices otherwise it will 'throw away' whatever you were doing. - This uses lots of water for rinsing, and the water tank is on the small side and a bit difficult to fill unless this is in the open. The water tank handle is straight garbage and the tank is difficult to remove so plan to have this somewhere you can just flip the lid and pour water into. - This heats up on power-on for 1-2 mins and will turn itself off after ~30 minutes, so you will need ~4 minutes to get a coffee Again I am overall happy with this machine, but I think I will be returning to a manual or semi-auto setup in the future. ... show more

We love our new Gaggia Magenta Prestige! We read tons of reviews and own a gaggia classic, but wanted to upgrade to an fully automated espresso and cappuccino experience and we haven't been disappointed except for one thing. Every time we try to use the ground coffee bypass, to use decaf, it would spill grinds all over inside the brew group. Cleaning it out is a long process so after five failed attempts I reached out to technical support at WholeLatteLove. They told me that pouring the measured ground coffee into the bypass shoot can only be done AFTER choosing the drink settings and the bypass setting. I've attached a page from the manual however which says the exact opposite, the manual instructs adding the ground coffee first! You would think an $800 machine would have no errors in the manual! Now our dream machine is working like a dream because we know the right order of steps finally! ... show more

    • Disappointed with the Gaggia Magenta Prestige
I had high hopes for the Gaggia Magenta Prestige after reading reviews comparing it to much more expensive machines, like the Miele, at a fraction of the price. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. First, the coffee quality was inconsistent—either too weak or burnt and bitter. I even used the same premium Blue Stone Lane coffee beans that yield perfect results at work, but I couldn’t achieve a good balance. Second, the biggest disappointment was the drink size limitation. The largest milk-based drink you can make is only 8 ounces, which is simply too small for a proper cappuccino or latte. While it does offer larger coffee options and double espresso, it falls short for those who enjoy larger milk-based beverages. For these reasons, I’ll be returning this product. ... show more
