  • Fixed my 2003 Buick LeSabre
This kit came with all the necessary materials and fitment pieces. It was straightforward and easy to install. I like that it provided a manual fill valve which I did install for backup should my oem compressor die out. My shocks had previously been replaced so I already had the screw on connections for airlines but this kit provided enough materials for conversion to screw on connections which I feel are superior. Ride is smooth, and lines hold air well. I've had them installed for about 2 months now and everything still working properly. Greatly improved my ride. Do recommend ... show more

  • Love 'em!
Installed these on a 2005 LeSabre and they fit perfectly and ride well. The OEM Delco part number that GM gives crosses to these shocks - in fact they're the same as the AC-Delcos selling on Amazon for 25 bucks more a pair. The original plastic air lines on the Buick were the snap-on type with a retainer clip and these Gabriels are threaded but Gabriel supplies a fitting kit that makes it a snap (er, I mean, a twist) to install. There was ample length on my factory airlines to attach to these shocks even with snipping off the 90-degree connector that was OEM. NOTE - do not use a flush or diagonal cutters on the plastic airline. The inside diameter is so small (well under a millimeter) you'll crush it. Use an exacto knife and slice it cleanly. There is an included large spring you're supposed to install in the dryer - however I omitted it and figured I'd see how the car performs first. The compressor comes on for a self-check as it's supposed to and then everything levels out. I see no reason to change the spring. Your mileage may vary of course. As for ride comfort, I see little difference between these new ones and the originals. They're a bit stiffer, ever so slightly, but hey they're new. That's to be expected. I saw reviews of the MA822's and it seemed more people said they were stiffer than not and I wanted to keep that large car ride intact as much as possible. No complaints here. Note that I don't have the stiff suspension option (the F41) so maybe for the firm-ride options the Monroes may not be as stiff since the springs are tighter to begin with. With the FE1 soft-ride these are the way to go. Overall these shocks are super and for a saving of nearly 480 over dealer price (535 to install) you cannot beat this set. ... show more

  • Autozone's Finest
Autozone charges another $5-10 for this same pair of rear shocks. You can get these for even cheaper here on Amazon.com if you do not mind getting them "used-like new". The $60 price is for new shocks, not used. I saw "used-like new" shocks for about $45. Awesome value for high quality shocks. There is one thing to definitely remember. Be certain to set these shocks to the ride level you want them at. If you want a firmer ride for more performance-minded driving, you can do that. If you want a more soft, plush ride you can set these for that as well. I have read some reviews that say they ride too rough or not firm enough either way. That is because you are not setting them to the way you like them. Set them properly and they will ride according to the way that you want them to. Long lasting, customizable, and high quality. ... show more

  • very rough ride
Put these on over a month ago and have gotta say the ride quality just flat out sucks. Doesn't even feel like shocks they are so stiff. I'm wondering if i'd have a softer ride tearing these out and just putting in 2 solid steel bars. I've used these before without a problem but this batch of them is just terrible and rock hard. I've checked the auto level system and it's working fine and the compressor isn't overfilling them either so it's not on my end ... show more

Simple installation on my 01 deville, but one was stuck in the fully compressed position as the dust boot(or air bladder?) stuck itself to the inside, some rust was visible after finally getting it to blow up, but it wasn't on anything important.

  • Easy, cheap, fun
The hardest part of the install is the removal of the old shocks. Once they're off, it goes pretty easy. You'll need to drill a hole near the rear of the vehicle for the schrader valve (where the air goes in), and carefully route the air lines to the shocks. Wire ties keep the lines away from mufflers, springs and the like. Use a new, sharp blade to cut the lines to length. I found that these shocks suited my needs without having to replace the standard coil springs on my ride. I often had various weights of cargo in the trunk and back seat, so these made adjusting the ride height easy. A portable 12 volt air compressor is all that you need to keep the ride height where you want it. Add or release air to adjust. These shocks replace the PINTA system GM used on many passenger cars with the "self-adjusting" compressor system that eventually wears out, leaks, whatever. A cheap fix to an expensive OEM replacement. ... show more

  • Great inexpensive fix
Great inexpensive fix, as were the front struts from Detroit Axle. It rides a tad stiffer than a DHS Deville but, isn't a DTS expected to? Everything is tight and stable. Install a resistor in-line between the two sensor wires, and you will be good to go without a barrage of error codes every time the car is started. ... show more

  • Monroe Replacement Rear air Shocks vs Gabriel
Do not buy Monroe replacement Rear Air Shocks 822 for 1997-2005, etc. for Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac and GM cars that have rear air shocks. They are designed for a stiff truck experience that shake the car terribly with no give. They are designed for very heavy loads. After a year of suffering amd talking to many mechanics and GM dealers with no help, I finally talked to a supervisosr at Gabriel with the guarantee that they had the right one!! Only $75 for a pair and I had the Cadillac Dealer install them so all would be OK. They are fantastic, smooth and no floating. I can finally take a trip again in comfort and safety!!! ... show more
