    • Works great out of the box
My cats have had the Furoomate for about a month now. One is a spunky 2 year old male tux and one is an ailing, aging grumpy female calico. The calico has been having bathroom issues for about a year, refusing to use a litter box for pooping. I have her using puppy pads at the moment- manageable but not ideal. She will still use one for urine, but it must be pristine. I have three boxes throughout the house. Anyway I bought the Furoomate hoping it might change something for us. The price point was nice and it seemed less complicated than other automatic litter boxes. Nothing to assemble, just unbox, plug in, fill and start using. When it arrived I did feel the opening was high enough I’d want a step - especially if the elder cat had any chance at liking it. My young guy checked it out for a few days before getting in. He was extra cautious, and despite the fact that it seems very small for him he was doing well with it. Until a few days later he caught it cycling for the first time. That freaked him out, and had escaped his attention because it is SO QUIET!! He stuck his head in the hole while it was turning and it stopped, which made me feel good about safety. It took a few more days for him to use it again though! He now uses it pretty much exclusively. My older cat shows no interest in using the furoomate at all. It is entirely too tall, narrow/small, with a small opening for her. That’s okay. It keeps the boy out of her box which makes her less grumpy and makes cleaning hers easier. Emptying it is easy and clean, I don’t notice a smell. My observations after a month: Good value for the price -but factor in the cost of a “step”. Very quiet operation. I’m very sensitive to noise and live alone in a small space and never hear it. I’ve walked in on it mid cycle and been surprised. Easy to operate. Easy to clean. Seems sturdy. Very small interior litter space. Especially for the size of the entire unit. Even a couple inches wider would make a difference. This is my only complaint, I’m just lucky one of my cats doesn’t mind. In the future an add on dome or lid might be nice. Overall I’m happy with the purchase. ... show more

Two months later: Litter box is still working good but there are a few issues I’ve had. Is the smell. I had it in my living room and you could smell the “litter box smell” when you walked in my front door. Because I have three cats I have to change the waist liner every four days. That part is OK because I’m not scooping two and three times a day. I have noticed that excess litter gets in the little handle that rotates the inner box. The silicone liner has developed bubbles in it and I’m not sure why. I use Armen Hammer slide litter, which works great. I just wish it had some type of carbon filter that would help with the odor. In the future, if they redesigned this, I would strongly recommend adding the carbon filter somewhere on the device to help control odor. I have tried using baking soda and the scented Litter powders to no avail. I would still recommended purchasing this because of the price and how well it works. I’m waiting to see how long it lasts. I put off buying an automatic litter box for years. Most were too expensive. Prior to this purchase I was using Tidy Cats Breeze system which worked out great for one cat. I have used Breeze for the last 10 months. But then I adopted two more kittens and found I was constantly scooping a litter box. Kittens use liter boxes A LOT. I researched online, read reviews, viewed videos of automatic litter boxes before deciding on Furoomate system. Price was reasonable compared to most systems. There was a $50 discount on this unit. My cats are used to open container so I wanted to stay with that concept. Si I placed my order which was roughly $249 plus taxes. The shipment arrived 5 days earlier that expected. A PLUS! Unpacking was soooo easy. Nothing to put together - just unbox, add choice of litter, and plug in. I left on "automatic" mode as it was already set. I read online about using different litters and I chose Dr. Elsies cat litter. I did also buy Arm and Hammer Slide litter to mix as well since I read from reviews that this works best. The litter box was not even set up for 10 minutes before my two 4 mo. old kittens got curious. They both used the litter box immediately. My 10 month old cat took a little longer, but used without a hitch. Then they were all curious about the movement during cleaning session. The mechanism stopped when they stepped on the edge during cleaning cycle. This is a great safety feature. My 4 mo. old kittens only weight like 3 pounds, so system did not always go into clean cycle. Once my older cat used though, clean cycle would initiate. I am willing to wait for my kittens to gain a little weight. Because all the cats used immediately, I was able to remove the old litter box system. They don't seem to miss the old one and are using the new Furoomate all the time. All in one night. Super excited and relieved this worked out. I do recommend the Furoomate litter box system. It is super quiet when going through clean cycle. First few times there was a slight rubbing noise but that has now disappeared and I am thrilled. Dr. Elsies and the Slide litter work very well and nothing sticks to side wall. A small instruction booklet comes with the unit. Easy to read and understand. Also, I was able to get a free 3 year extended warranty (up from a year) by completing online through their email provide to register product. Just have to list your name and the Amazon order# on the email. Easy! I have ordered the Furoomate step from Amazon and it will arrive today. I used a small stepstool for cats to enter since opening is rather high. There is some litter mess when they step out of box, but I am hoping the new step will alleviate some of that. Still worth every penny because I was scooping 3 times day or more on the Breeze system. Oh and the best feature of all...it has a very large waste drawer. I am waiting to see how many days of waste it will collect before I need to empty. Estimate is 5 days with 3 cats. System comes with 20 bags PLUS one was already installed when I unpacked everything. Extremely pleased with my decision. Cats are happy. I am happy. Great value. Easy to use and set up. Love the square design and open top. No smell so far. Placed it in my living room. Don't wait.     • Great automatic litter box
We’ve been using a compact enclosed automatic litter box for our 2 cats. We liked its small footprint but adding fresh litter and changing the litter bag have been a hassle. We recently came across the Furoomate and was attracted by its open top design and its ease of replacing the litter bag. The shipment arrived in no time. The litter box is of decent size and not bulky. It was easy to set up and our cats took right to it. The simple design makes it very easy to clean, and unlike the enclosed litter boxes, the open top makes adding new litter a breeze.
