  • Great first board game
Size: Standard
This is a great beginner board game. My 3 and 5 year old love to play it together. It’s simple, not a lot of rules and plays pretty fast so it’s able to keep their attention.

  • Very simple game, great for starting board games.
Size: Standard
I have a 7 year old and 4 year old. I saw this board game, and wanted to give it a try. We just finished playing several games, and I'm glad I did. With computers and tablets and whatnot, I feel we've been behind with some good old fashioned board games. Some of the other ones I've tried to take out seem to be kind of too complicated for them to get into to have fun with having so many rules. I do eventually want to build up to Monopoly. But, it seems harder these days to make this fun when a kid can watch a movie on something the size of your palm. This board game has some familiar characters that both kids love, and the 7 year old really enjoys it and wants to keep playing. The 4 year old even had fun playing as well, and very quickly got the hang of it (with me supervising of course). The premise is simple, and there's simple counting. The spots also have different colors, so some very basic movement (up to 4 spaces on a spin) and more with the "Turbo" card, which has them advance to a particular color. The games go pretty quickly also, as it is a -race- to 4 laps. I want to go over some of the cheapy points of this game, but since the kids enjoy it, these points are just for your reference, as the game is still fun. The "Launch" aspect of this game is a little different than I expected. I kind of figured you'd shoot the cars through. It is more of a dexterity launch, to where you want your playing piece (Lightning or Tow Mater) to stop on the track where the hill is. If you shoot through the end and hit the spinning thing, you start your lap midway. If you launch and land before the hill, you start at the beginning of the lap, and if you land on the top of the hill, you start about 3/4 of the way through the lap. I simplified the launching by just saying if they hit the spinning end, it was midway, but if they stopped anywhere from the top of the hill but not hit the spinning thing, then they would start at the 3/4 mark. The playing pieces are cheap plastic, and they are static, the 'wheels' aren't real wheels and don't spin. Probably for the better, because then they would just roll right through the launch track instead of stopping at a particular point. There are literally only like 6 "Turbo" cards, so there is not much to do there or enough to even shuffle them really. I guess it adds to simplicity though. You have to hold onto the spin board for the kids, because it is small, and if you don't it'll be flying off the table on each spin. The bottom line though is it is probably the first actual board game we've played, and the kids enjoyed it. We did some kerplunk and don't break the ice inconsistently. But, this is the first actual "board game" where you have a final objective and a progressive movement throughout. The combination of being very simple, being the Cars characters from the movies, and being quick was a hit. I feel more confident we can get into some other games from here, and for that, I think it's a good thing. ... show more

  • Easy game for 6-7 year olds
Size: Standard
This game was easy to set up and easy for 6-7 year olds to follow without help from an adult. Any younger child would need to be guided every turn. Kids should now how to count spaces up to 4. Each round was fairly fast and simple to follow. This is great for kids who are fans of Cars.
