  • A Tasty Othello-Inspired Quick Stategy Game
My husband and I are always looking for great two-player games that don't require hours of setup or tedious rules videos online. Donuts is a game that delivers on the simplicity, but really shows layers of strategy. The more rounds we played, the more I tried to think ahead and predict my opponent's strategy. That's where the genius of this game really shines. The gameplay is very simple and easy to pick up. One player is chocolate donuts and the opponent is vanilla. The board is created by the four two-sided smaller boards randomly assembled at the start of every game. The goal of the game is to have 5 of your donuts in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. When placing a donut on a space, the line down the middle of the space dictates where the opponent may place his or her next piece (either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). If no space is available in that line, column, or diagonal, the player may place their piece on any open space on the board. Here's where Othello/Reversi comes in. If you place a piece between two of your opponent's pieces you "fill" your opponent's pieces (like filling a donut, see?) and you may flip those two pieces over to your side. Similarly, if when you place a piece you then have two pieces between two of theirs, you may flip them, and so on. Gameplay goes very quickly once everyone is clear on the rules, as long as you don't spend too much time agonizing over moves. Each of the games I played with my spouse was less than 5 minutes long. You could definitely continue to play again until you're tapped out. My husband was done after 3 games but I could have kept going. I enjoyed trying to plan ahead for my strategy. The last thing I'll say is that the game is great quality for how simple it is. The boards are well made, the box is sturdy and has an insert to keep everything fitting appropriately, and the little donuts are just the best! They are a thick wooden piece, they feel very nice to hold and handle, and the artwork on them is just adorable! Very detailed. My only complaint is that the boards themselves, while the colors are nice, don't have much creativity or theming. I could see them better integrated into the donut theme in a future edition. I also wish there were a way to play with more than 2 people, but I know some games simply work best with a pair. Overall, if you like quick-to-play strategy games with a little bit of theming and nice pieces (like Chickapig or Tsuro), then you've just got to check this one out. I can easily see this one becoming a staple in our game nights! ... show more

  • Great fun!
I absolutely love board games and card games. I am enjoying have this in my collection. The only thing I wish it had more of is the 4 squares as this could increase the fun. This is kinda a mix of connect 4 and reversi. There is definitely some strategy to playing this game. Once my kids learned how to play it, they continued to play while dinner was cooking. Some games will be quick, while others might take a little bit. I can see this game being one we take on vacation with us. The pieces are good quality and I can see this lasting awhile as long as they don’t get wet. ... show more

  • Fun Strategy Game With Cute Graphics
Outside of the adorable donuts, I love the versatility of this game where you can change the board around in multiple way in order to keep the game fresh and different every time. I did have to keep reminding myself that it's not Othello (where some of the rules of play are backwards to this game), but once we had the game play going we had a great time. This game is cute, easy to play, and a fun short play for two people. I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Cute
Cute game. Pieces are wooden, which is a nice change from all the flimsy plastic, and the print is adorable. It appears to be a cross between checkers and connect four, with some more strategy thrown in. Looking forward to playing it with my daughter.

  • Kids couldn’t get beyond the instructions.
Seemed like a cute game for 8,11 & 12yr olds. They took the game upstairs and brought it back down saying it was complicated to understand . The game pieces were cheaper looking than expected. Maybe good for an adult wine game night.

  • Fun strategy game
This is a really fun strategy game! I’d say five and up could play but one older you are the better you’ll be. It’s really similar to the old game I used to play as a child, othello. Where you flip your opponents disc to your color if you surround it with your discs. Same idea. You have to get five in a row of your color to win. It’s all cardboard, but the donuts are thick sturdy cardboard. So it should hold up. As long as they don’t get wet lol. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Fun little game, easy to learn!
This is a beautifully designed little game that takes very little time to learn, yet many plays to master! I love the little wooden donut pieces, as most small mass-produces board games use plastic pieces, it's nice to see painted wooden tokens used. The game itself is pretty easy to learn with the included instructions. I mainly play 2-player games with my hubby, so this is a fun quick game to pick up whenever! It definitely has replayability so you can play it many times without getting bored since it's always a fresh round! I feel this game can be played with anyone of any age, just don't get too competitive and have fun! :) ... show more

  • Great game, But...
This is a great game. Think of a cross between checkers and chess. It really makes you think of placement. I enjoyed playing it for an hour or so with a friend. I really did enjoy this and it can take some concentration on ones part to make sure your opponent doesn't flip everything you built up. The ONLY issue I have is with the instructions, they are a bit confusing. The first couple of steps in the instruction sheet talk about yellow lines, but there are NO yellow lines on the boards or on the instruction manual. I am assuming they meant to put them, but forgot. We figured out what the yellow lines represented AFTER reading the instructions completely. Besides that I think this board game is pretty amazing. The board tiles are very thick cardboard and the donuts are made of wood with stickers on top. That's about all their is in the box. Not alot to lose and easy to put away. Would definitely recommend. ... show more
