  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Use the water/dryer method
Size: 24 Pack Color: Black (Wedge)
When I ordered some foam panels years ago they came as described. When I ordered a pack recently, I was disappointed that they were vacuum sealed and even more disappointed that after the recommended time sitting out, they still were less than half an inch thick. This time around( I believe this is a different seller) I saw there was a wet/drain then dryer option . The reviews I read on which is better were mixed . So having bought 3 packs . I tested 2 using the first option and the 3rd pack using the second . In my picture you can see on the left, how thick they got. That was after soaking for about 20 secs, draining the water and drying on medium heat. It took a total of about an hour to have the fluff including being dry. The one on the right has been sitting out for 48 hours and looks like when it arrived . Maybe 3/4" thick. I would absolutely recommend the wet/dry method. I will also try it on my 3rd pack and any older ones I might need fluffed. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Prep REQUIRED
Size: 12 Pack Color: Grey (Wedge)
Let me suggest you do not wait 24-48 hours for self expansion as it will not happen. This is said over and over - it is not a lie. If you need a large volume like I did you may want to consider panels that are not vacuum sealed. I bought 300 of these panels for my dog boarding kennel so I needed a quick way to get these to expand. I opened the first box that had 7-12 packs, peeled them apart while throwing them in my bathtub full of water (which worked!) but soon realized, too late - I was on a mission -I had to wring each one out with carpal tunnel syndrome and still had to dry them because no amount of squeezing was going to work. My dryer being fairly new has a moisture sensor I cannot figure out how to shut off. Due to that the dryer turned off every 3 min because the foam holds the moisture deep inside. These are SPONGES! So here are my practical tips after trying several science experiments: Rinse and Spin one pack at a time in your front loader. This alone will save you hours. Iโ€™m using the steam cycle on my dryer because the water is disconnected. They get almost completely dry and doesnโ€™t shut off as often. Iโ€™m sticking them to the walls with acoustic panel glue in a bucket. Then, using fans in the boarding kennel to completely dry them out and Iโ€™m sticking them to FRP not drywall so the initial moisture doesnโ€™t matter. No doubt they help with the acoustic dampening. I do not hate them but they are a pain in the hinder. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Good acoustically-speaking (in my limited experience) ... but with a health concern (UPDATED)
NOTE: I've had to change my impression of this product because of some things I ignored at the beginning. The updated comments are seen at the bottom. This is pretty much close to being a LITERAL mixed bag of reviews concerning this product and seller: PROS: 1) The box in which the product arrived was large, which indicated that the panels were not vacuum packed, as is so common with foam acoustic panels, and bass traps. 2) The box was filled with panels, not an inch of space remaining. 3) There was MORE than 48 panels in the box. 4) The panels were "fairly" consistent in size 12"x12" wise. CONS (sort of): 1) The box was filled with MORE than 48 panels, without an inch of space remaining ... which is because the panels were a bit smashed in together. But they're foam, so they do reconstitute themselves with a little time (24 hours typically). 2) The panels were "fairly" consistent in size 12"x12" wise ... but not so much on the 2" situation, although it wasn't what I'd call a deal breaker. A single panel could have 2" peaks at one end and 1.25" peaks on the other end. 3) Some of the panels had rip marks on the backs, which indicated to me that they'd been adhered to a wall, and pulled off. But again, this was made up for by the increase of the number of panels received (something like 62 I believe) which could be used as fillers for this or that area. CONS: 1) Inconsistency in the size of the foam cells. Some looked and felt more like real acoustical foam and others looked a bit more like packing foam, which is not, from my understanding, the same thing. So the bottom line is, IF I'd only received 48 panels, and some of them included the inconsistencies in peak height, and especially the pull marks on the back, as if they were previously used, this review would've been a bit different. BUT it appears that the seller was making up for this problem by giving me 14 extra panels, which really did come in handy. And the price was right ... for someone like me, just trying to put together a recording studio on a shoestring budget, so that I can redo a bit of it with higher-quality stuff later on, when more cash flow is evident. IMPORTANT UPDATE ... Serious CON: I have pollen, dust, and mold allergies, which I handle, for the most part, with medicine. One thing I noticed, after installing these panels, and which I (mainly) ignored, was that there were some seriously nasty off gases coming from these panels. My Voice Over studio is in the basement of my house, which also houses all of my hand tools and power tools. Every time I'd walk down there to do this or that, oftentimes having nothing to do with the VO studio, just grabbing a tool to fix something upstairs, I'd get a stinging in my throat and felt like I had to hack up something out of my throat. I thought it was just my allergies, but the more I've done some reading on some other acoustical foam panels (which cost a heck of a lot more) I can see that this is a real thing, and that I could've been exposing myself to something potential dangerous ... or that I survived something potentially dangerous. I don't know for sure. All I know is that, after some time (and heavy-duty use of Febreeze) I don't have that problem anymore, and I've never experienced it, either before, nor after. So my caution is, if you've got sensitive breathing issues, you might want to consider a different product. Perhaps LUXHIVE (which I admittedly have not purchased yet) which claim to have zero off gases and are flame resistant. Just looking at the texture of these panels is a world of difference in what I see in the panels I'd purchased and that of the images concerning all of the other inexpensive acoustical foam panels. So buyer beware. That's about the size of it. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Follow instructions
Size: 12 Pack Color: Black (Wedge)
For anyone who can't figure out how to get the foam to expand, read the directions lol they WILL expand if you follow the instructions. Wet them in the sink, ring them out and throw them in the dryer on medium for 20 min and they're good to go, just like in the picture

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Need to soak and dry them. Worked fine for me
Size: 12 Pack Color: Grey (Wedge)
The instructions say to soak the panels in water, wring them out and then put in the dryer for 20 minutes. I followed the instructions and it worked fine. For soaking them I just dipped each panel in a bucket of water for a few seconds and then wrung them out. I did this very quickly. Just a few seconds for each panel. Then I put them in the dryer for 20 minutes. When I took them out of the dryer they had expanded and were ready to go. I have used a different brand in the past and they expanded automatically after I opened the airsealed bag. I was surprised that I needed to soak these and do the whole dryer routine. But it worked out fine. No big deal. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Follow the second set of instructions
Size: 12 Pack Color: Black (Wedge)
Got these in and tried to do the first set of instructions for letting them fluff up and air out on their own. Dont do that. Follow the second set of instructions. Even just running them under warm water and ringing them out and air drying them works wonders too. So far they are working great, you will need to buy a good double sided tape to adhere these to what ever surface your attaching them too though. I bought these to silence one of my 3D printing enclosures and so far its working wonders. ... show more
