Features

  • Founders of Gloomhaven is a competitive tile-placement, action-selection, city-building game in which each player controls a fantastical race working to build the city of Gloomhaven and gain influence over its residents. This is a standalone game set in the same universe as Gloomhaven. The events, however, take place hundreds of years before Gloomhaven and depict the original construction of the city.
  • In Founders of Gloomhaven, players use action cards to place resource buildings on the map of the city, use these resources to create more advanced resources, then deliver them to proposed building sites to earn prestige. An individual player, however, cannot do everything on their own because they can import only a small number of resource types, depending on their race. To create more advanced resources, they have to work with other players.
  • The game also features an auction mechanism in which players vote periodically to determine which new building proposals come out and where they are placed on the board. Players can also add the influence they've gathered to increase the strength of their vote.

  • Terrific Game
The quality of the game is better than most games at this price point. I have purchased 50.00 games that were made like this, yet somehow, this game creator provided the same quality at half the price. The game pieces are thick hardened cardboard, there are small bags in the box to organize the pieces once you remove them from the card stock. It's heavy duty, thick and the graphics (colors) are wonderful. Nice game! Now to play it :) ... show more

  • Great game!
This game is a little complicated to learn. However, once everyone knows the rules and how to play. It becomes fairly simple to play through. In addition, It's a very fun and thought provoking game. I would definitely recommend.

I really like this one. A lot of people who have played it with do not agree. It has some different elements to it compared to other games I've played. The components and rules are the only thing I am not as impressed with, but overall I've had a lot of fun with this one.

  • Great Game
Great city building game. It's not super complex to learn. The main complexity comes from scoring. For those who enjoy city building or slightly more complex game, I highly recommend it.

  • awesome game
this is a fun to play game where you arrange building tiles on a map, each tile produces different resources. certain buildings require a road connection to these resources to produce more advanced resources. you gain points by placing advanced buildings, and delivering resources to other buildings. you can also recruit advisers which improve your options in what action to take each turn. you take actions by playing cards. one card might let you place a building, another lets you recruit advisers, or gain income, and so on. there's often a lot of choice in what strategy to follow. you can also use other player's resources by connecting roads to their buildings. the rules are not overly complicated but there are several exceptions, for example where and how you can place a building, so you kind of have to memorize them. this will happen naturally as you play though. the rulebook has some parts which are not very clear, but you can go on BoardGameGeek to ask questions if you get confused. ... show more
