  • By far, the best vice for the price...
Size: CR80A-8In
A quality, substantial vise is an integral part of any home workshop - especially if one is going to work on items of any size (e.g. tractor and implement parts, automotive, home improvement projects, etc.). You need the real deal, not a makeshift or playtoy to just get by. And unless you're big enough commercially to justify going higher, you'd really appreciate a good price and have more money for something else. The CR-80A checks all of those boxes and more. I would highly recommend it to anyone. ... show more

  • The Bucking Bronco of Bench Vises
Great weight, solid as an anvil, great clamping pressure, a LOT of vise for the money. Alignment is good when clamped as long as you take the time to fiddle the moving jaw into position as you clamp down: there is enough slop in the the moving jaw that jostling it into position every time you care about an accurate clamp is necessary. The main screw has a return spring built onto it, very common for this kind of vise and probably a desired feature for most users (although the spring's retaining-clip point is the biggest weakness in vises so equipped... but I digress). The big problem I had was that the main screw and its receiver are not well mated, having been machined with an enormous amount of leeway - and during un-clamping, the jaws/screw tended to bind up, then the return spring would push the jaws apart with force - causing the moving jaw to lurch backward 1-2 mm upon release. Cleaning and greasing had no effect on this: it arrived nicely clean already, and while the grease coat was very thin (again, probably a desirable thing for most users) re-greasing made no difference (so I'd say the factory greasing should be fine for most users). Reversing the vise is easy, and makes for a surprisingly versatile tool; the loose alignment and the Bucking-Bronco action are the same either way. ... show more

Size: CR40A-4.5In
Good vice for the price it holds material well and seems to be well made and should last for a lot of years.

  • Solid, well packaged
Size: 6.5Inch
Seems very solid, well packaged, I very much like it and look forward to many years of use out of this vise. My old harbor freight vise broke because it was crappy cast iron but this one seems to be better and will have great longevity for use.

  • The DIY vise to get!
Size: 6.5Inch
Did my research and this is the best bang for buck in a DIY vise for your garage or workshop. Came packed fully encased in styro in a robust undamaged box. Finish and operation are flawless. Has a nice looking greyish bluish powder coat finish that is very industrial looking. All advertised specs were right on except for the crossbar length. It is 9.5" instead of the stated 10.5". Jaws line up perfectly, and the open/close action is smooth on the greased screw spindle. Mounting mine on 1/4" steel plate over 1" plywood work bench surface with some 1/4" flat bar underneath the front bolts. Can't fit another full plate underneath due to bench design. This ductile iron vise should last me a lifetime. Very pleased. ... show more
