  • Windows 10 users - BEWARE - drivers are unstable
Size: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres Style: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres
Update 11/30/2017: Finally within the past few months this device has finally stabilized for me. Considering all the help Focusrite tried to give while I was having issues I feel I can now give this a 5 star rating. Even though I had issues and it was very annoying to have the device randomly go sideways they did make every attempt to help me resolve it. Seems something they've done in the latest series of drivers has completely resolved me issues. Update 7/19/2016: Issues seem to be getting worse and worse so I am returning this item now. When it works, it works great, but things have been going downhill steadily. Based on the other reviews, it seems if you are using this on Linux or Mac you likely won't have issues. But the drivers for Windows 10 are horribly unstable. Here is an update to the state of things which lead me to return this. - Drivers cause a blue screen at least once a day, if not more, which point directly to their USB driver as the cause. This has caused me to lose a fair amount of work to date as it appears to be random and obviously crashes my whole system. - Now, 8 out of 10 times when I start my computer up, the device is "not functioning" in the device manager. I have to disable the device and enable it again; then it will start to work. - The audio will start to distort after a period of time. I have to switch playback devices, to say my monitors HDMI audio output, and then back to the Scarlett and the issue goes away. I will say Scarlett support was very good, they immediately reached out to me due to my reported issues here on Amazon. Unfortunately after contacting them I was requested to supply a slew of information and in all honestly I just simply do not have the time to play QA tester for them. If the issue was isolated and minor I would not have a problem with this, but just to document and collect all of the information they would need would have easily take two hours of my time; then I would be waiting who knows how long for fixes all while having my computer somewhat unusable. I work from home off this system and I can not have random blue screens everyday, it ends up costing me money from the lost work. In summary, it seems they did not properly QA their drivers for Windows 10. The hardware itself seems solid, but their drivers clearly have some massive, massive issues. What started out as a great experience has slowly devolved into a nightmare of blue screens, distorted audio and headaches. Update 7/11/2016: - Distortion issue seems to be getting worse; that is happening more frequently. - After sometime without any problems, I am now having random blue screens (Windows 10 64-bit) which point to the Focusrite USB driver as the culprit. - I've contacted Focusrite as they have ask me to do as much and will make another update once I have made some progress with them on this. For now I am going to reduce my rating on this device until these issues are resolved. Update 6/20/2016: - I am using the "Focusrite USB ASIO Driver - Windows Only" (v4.8.0.66) on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. - I've only had a rare issue (it has happened twice in two weeks) where I do get audio distortion. Going into the windows 10 audio playback dialog and switching any other audio device then back to the Scarlett fixes the issue instantly. - I did have minimal interference, which in my experience is to be expected using USB audio devices with computers. Using ground lifts removed all interference for me. Using this with an Alienware 15 R2 (Skylake) laptop running Windows 10. It is setup as the default windows audio output device. So far just rocking out to music using it to drive my KRK K10S sub and two KRK Rokit 4 monitors. I have not tested recording with my microphone or used it with any pro-audio software just yet. I'll be sure to update this review if anything changes. So far no issues of any sort, very pleased. ... show more

  • Works fine on my Windows 10 PC
Size: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres Style: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres
I only got it last night, but gave it the full runthrough and it works as expected. These 1 star reviewers don't know what they're doing. Recording vocals worked perfectly without lag. Switching between monitor and processed audio was barely noticeable lag. The switch to line level would also be great if I had an electric guitar. I had plenty of headroom on all the levels too. I could easily blow out my eardrums with my ATH-M50x headphones. No monitors yet. My main reason for this purchase was to use it for my M-AUDIO Keystation which is a USB MIDI controller. This actually plugs into the USB port of the PC, not the Scarlett. I'm done with MIDI cables! The DAW (FL Studio) then sends my awesome piano playing to the Focusrite, and using the Focusrite ASIO drivers worked just fine without any noticeable lag. I also have ASIO4ALL installed if I run into issues. I'm using an i7 2600K home built PC with a Creative Labs card that wasn't convenient to use. I may try some other configurations that would send audio back to my PC speakers, but that's not a great use case. Live streaming would presumably work very well. You can mix your audio from your PC's audio with the Scarlett without any cables. A lot of people do this with the line-in jack, but they are doing it wrong. If you're getting lag, you're also doing it wrong. So this is definitely the thing you need if you are recording, not some dumb analog mixer with fancy sliders that plugs into your line-in jack. Forget that! But you could certainly plug in a mixer to this as a line-in if you needed more preamps and channels. Your PC simply sees this as an extra "stereo" sound card. People having problems may be using the wrong drivers and not understanding how to connect and configure this. You kind of need to be a PC expert to use this. If you're a novice, you will be watching videos to help walk you through it before you hear any sound coming from this thing. But this is 100 times easier and more convenient than trying to use your existing soundcard for recording and playing. ... show more

  • No drivers and no problems
Size: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres Style: 2i2 - 2 Mic Pres
The Scarlet 2i2 worked pretty much instantly for me. I should point out I'm a Mac user and the low ratings seem to come from people having problems with drivers, which you don't deal with on a Mac. Nor have I messed with the dowloadable software yet, which sounds painfully complex. The task was to record the output of my Peavey Classic 20 Mini amp head into GarageBand. In theory, the Classic 20 is the best of both worlds; it's a genuine, nothing-digital, tube amp that can be used as you would use any guitar amp. You dial in your tone and you can use your guitar effect pedals as you normally would. But the "solution" turned out to be a problem. The Peavey amp has a USB-out for recording but no matter what I did, I got interference and noise. It turns out, USB can be noisy because in addition to data, it also carries power. Now for the good news. The Peavey amp also has an XLR output. I ran an XLR cable from the amp to the Scarlet and now I'm getting beatiful sound with almost no noise. At last, after messing with a Line 6 POD that sounded awful and a Vox Tonelab that sounded pretty good but lacked enough output for single coil pickups, I have a plug and play setup for recording. ... show more
