Excellent learning tool when combined with the free Avidyne iPad simulator app. While the iPad app has changed slightly and the IFD software has been updated since this book was published, those differences are relatively minor and the book is still extremely useful. You will quickly find yourself expanding from the examples in the book into your own scenarios within the simulator using what you have learned in each chapter. This book’s scenario based approach to teach the intricacies of Avidyne IFD 440/540 operations is so much better than trying to learn from the pilot’s guide. Worth every penny to purchase this book!

    • A Must For Avidyne Users
As a long time Garmin G1000 user I struggled with adapting to Avidyne avionics. This book in conjunction with the videos referenced helped me to bridge the gap between Garmin and Avidyne. The cost of the book is well worth the time saved in the cockpit.

There is so much introductory material out there on the IFDs, together with video instructionals and a well written pilot guide, why bother with a book? This book is clearly and simply written, and is aimed at someone considering an IFD to get familiar with it, or a new user that is looking for scenario based tutorials rather than a reference text. It is not a volume that covers every last detail, nor does it have "power user" tips, that is not its purpose. Covers 440, 540 & 550, as well as the non-radio variants. ... show more

Very useful guide for getting started with the IFD540. I recently purchased a plane with one of these devices installed, and this book has been invaluable in getting up to speed. It is concise and easy to understand. I have the Kindle version, but I'm thinking of buying the paperback so I can more easily share it with my safety pilot and CFII. ... show more
