The prefabricated plastic panel squares fit either 16" or 24" on center joist systems. Simply secure them to your attic floor joists with the included screws. Just like that, you have additional flooring space for storage or a sturdy stepping stone pathway to get to hard-to-reach spaces. Each has five prefabricated holes for screws to be secured into the attic floor joists. Don’t worry about wires, pipes, and ductwork. My house was built around 1967 and I recently had a few inches of cellulose insulation blown in over the existing layer of fiberglass batts. I realized after the insulation was added that I need to create some type of path to access the high velocity air conditioner that's also up there. I bought four packs for a total of 16 panels and they worked quite well. They are small and light enough that I could get them through the small opening to the attic space and the gridded construction made it easy to work them under the batts and through the cellulose. Some of the comments had me concerned they would be flimsy or easy to break but I don't feel that is any kind of issue once installed on my 16 inch on center joists. Not all of my joists are equally space but I found there was always some way to position the next panel to get it into a good position that provides some sound footing. It may have been more frugal of me to by some lumber and build something up there by it's not my favorite place to hang around especially in Summer. So the convenience of these was worth the price to me. ... show more

PROS -super-easy to install -easy to get into the attic -not intimidating In six years, I have not even looked at my attic, because my husband had told me there was no flooring up there, and I was always nervous about not knowing what kind of plywood to use or installing something incorrectly and unsafely. Finding Attic DEK gave me the confidence in taking on the project. They are small enough to get into the attic easily, and they were very easy to drill into place. CONS -price -not sure about sturdiness As many others have stated, one pack of four just does not give you very much surface area to warrant the price. We purchased four packs, because we felt that the investment was important. So far, I have only laid 2 1/2 packs. When I went to step on one, the give was just enough that it made me nervous about laying any too far away from a sturdy space (the 2 x 4 boards in our attic that are secured to joists, where I feel safe standing). We have much more attic space, and I had planned to lay them in areas farther away from the door, but now it just makes me a little nervous. I am pretty confident that they will do the job of holding the file boxes of papers and books that we are trying to get out of the way, but I am just a little nervous about walking on them and using them as extended floor space (I weigh about 100 pounds less than the maximum capacity). TIPS: -screw the screws in slowly. The first few, I went a little high on the torque, and ended up stripping screws. When I was careful to go slowly and angle the screw straight up and down, everything went beautifully. -lining up the first grid line so that it is on top of the joist is more important than making the pieces fit perfectly together. It is better to leave a small gap if you need so that the first line is on top of the joist. I believe that the ones on which I did that are the ones that feel more sturdy. I will update this review when I have placed items in the attic, and when I know whether we will extend the project. ... show more

These are pretty solid and I’m very happy with the find. I would recommend using your decking screws if you have some handy as the screws that come with the set strip easy and are on the cheaper side. I do think the 4 piece panel set are about $20 over-priced but there’s a certain level of convenience you’re paying for. I plan on getting 3 more sets as the added square footage this gives you to stack bins is truly awesome! I’m about 5’9 175 and I felt super safe walking on these. ... show more

We bought these panels to add some flooring between our pull-down attic access and the platform where our HVAC unit sits in the attic. The 4 panels in the pack worked perfectly for such a small area, and now our maintenance guys don't have to worry about a small misstep sending them through the ceiling. These are VERY sturdy with lots of screw points to secure them to the joists/beams. They are expensive, but they are so easy to install it makes more sense than buying wood and cutting it for a small walkway like this or to gain a small deck for storage. ... show more

This product certainly works as advertised. Relatively easy install. I did feel the screws were not up to the task. My main Takeaway was that the product was too expensive. This is a poor substitute for plywood.

    • Easy to install with a cordless screw driver.

It was easy to install. I would like to use them in the difficult to reach areas of my attic, but my insulation is too thick. I wish it had elevated legs, that would also help to go over pipes and cords. The cord cutouts are only wide enough for one 1/2" wide cord. So I used a multi tool to cut notches in my 2x10" and put the grate on top. Now I can access the roof dryer vent easily from the attic. I am 130 pounds and the panels do bend a bit so If I were over 150, I might add a 2x4 support under each. 4 prices is not enough. I will be ordering more bc they are so easy. Also, if you need a temporary walkway to access a leak, these are perfect bc they are removable. My suggestion is if you think you have it plumb, lay them all out first, bc an 1/8 " off center on the first one can cause the 3rd ones screw holes to tap the edge of your been instead of center. ... show more
