  • The heat is on.
Color: 15W
This is under a pound (15.9oz) I wanted it for the ability camping to charge up a power bank. I got the Anker slim 10,000mAh with USB-C input. Today it was 91° and NO cloud cover at all. I tested the output voltage and got 5.05 about each time. The amp readout wasnt playing nice on my meter once it did show 1.60 amps but I can't be certain. I started the test charging at 11:30AM. A few times I held a boogie-board to block the sun, once just above the panels and it kept showing a good charge. Another time I placed the board on top and the charging stopped as expected. Then I removed it and the charging resumed as hoped. UNDER the panels I placed a remote sensor to monitor the tempature. It climbed over 100° fast so I moved the battery under the same board instead of using the panels as shade. This proved a good learning point as the temp under the panels peaked at 104.4 at the end of the test. At 3:00 I checked and the 4th bar was lit on the Anker. I cant say exactly when but the full charge was about what they claim to be as 3.7 hours. The build quality is quite robust and acceptable for field use. Take obvious care at the folding points. I think for the price and weight this should work out for anyone seeking a solution to stay powered up away from the grid. I dont know how it fairs in heavy clouds since there were none during this test. The 10 watt model is 5 oz less but I firgured 15 watts and the 3rd panel has a higher chance of success. It should be light enough to lay over the back of a pack and charge up what you need while walking or just once at camp leave it out. So far I am happy with the results I got. ... show more

  • It really works . . .
Color: 15W
Solar panels represent an endless supply of power. As long as the sun shines - and we are not foolish enough to nuke the sun (see the Matrix) - its power can be harnessed through solar panels. For years I had been waiting for solar panels that would be a truly viable alternative to electricity. That day has arrived. This solar panel is efficient, and really works. It charges my devises effortlessly, even in less than optimal situations. This will accompany on my camping trips and travels to developing countries. It will also be a companion to my Anker 521 portable power station, for emergencies during power outages. My only gripe is that at time of purchase only the 10W, 15W and 40W versions were available. The sweet spot would have been between 20W-30W. The 10W-15W versions are a bit underpowered and would be ideal mainly for cellphones and tablets. It only comes with a USB-C connector. The 40W version, while having a small form factor when folded, is too lengthy when spread out to be truly portable. But it does add two more connnectors: a DC connector and the older USB connector. It would have also been nice to have ”legs” to angle the panel towards the sun, as opposed to merely spreading it out on a flat surface or hanging it by its grommets. The sun is not always directly overhead. Still, the minimalistic form factor of this solar panel as well its impressive output makes it the best that I have seen so far. I was impressed enough that having acquired the 15W version, I have also bought the 40W version. Update: While I am quite impressed with the 15W version, I haven't been with the 40W so far. The maximum wattage I've derived from it is 20W. Of course, since it is much longer and doesn't have any stand for angling it more precisely to the sun, optimal positioning is more difficult, so this could be somewhat my fault. I'll post as I experiment more with it. I am also disappointed that it does not come with any kind of corded charger. The DC connector is not commonly found, and it would have been nice if one was included, or if they made one. ... show more

  • Excellent, Lightweight 15w USB Solar Panel
Color: 15W
This review is for the 15w panel. I used it for a 2 1/2 week trip to Romania where I didn't have any access to any power whatsoever. It folds small to easily fit inside my pack and weighs very little. I used it to charge my 36000 MAh battery pack during the day and at night would plug my devices (phone, iPad, flashlight) in to charge from the battery pack. This solar panel kept up and my battery pack was always fully charged when I settled down for the evening. It would even output power in cloudy conditions, although I'm sure it wasn't putting out a full 3A when not in direct sunlight. Although not a negative for the panel itself, I do recommend getting a 15' USB cable separately so you can place the panel where needed while still keeping the device being charged in the shade to prevent from overheating it. Overall, this 15w panel was an excellent buy and I would purchase again if needed in the future. ... show more
