The desolding point was almost next to ceramic tile wall. I used 2 thin "hardy board" type board pieces behind it and this product as 1st line of fire. Kept flame on the flame side. Did not cross over. No answer on durability except it survived the torch.

    • Saw a guy on YouTube using one of these. Looked like a good idea.

Don't spend the money and use one of these if -- you don't care about scorching your walls, studs and plumbing fixtures with your torch. And don't apply the torch flame directly on to the mat itself for very long, because anything will burn at those temperatures.

First, and only, time I used this was to join two copper pipes so I stapled the pad behind the pipes with the center opening below the joint. The wood behind it caught on fire and the pad ripped. Don't waste your money.
