  • A great fit for the right application
Size: Small
Pros: Whisper Quiet. Seriously your ear needs to be within a foot to hear this. Small form factor Relatively safe hear output: The addition of the ceramic heating element creates an even amout of heat. You could use this in a tent easily given you make sure nothing lands on the heater. I beleive the unit would do well to heat a large tent by at least 20° likely similar in performance to a little buddy heater low Cons: It takes a few minutes to warm all the way up, it doesn't feel as warm in an outdoor setting as the TekSport 3000 btu heater I have that more resembles a standard heating head with no ceramic element. Eventually it feels very warm if you keep it really close however it doesn't heat an outdoor area nearly as well as the other heater I have with the same btu output On low I can distictively smell unburnt propane. To me this makes the heater non-adjustable from the high setting. Unlike a little buddy heater ther is no low oxygen sensor or anti-tip feature. The design limits your ability to use an larger propane tank. Conclusion: This is a good heater for the right application. It's missing the safety features of the little buddy and doesn't perform as well outdoors as the Teksport. It's definitely quiter than both. The several minutes it takes to warm is problematic if you're trying to get short term temporary heat. I use this in the trunk of my car while I have a smoke. It does warm up fast enough and other heaters would not work as well in this application. I was excited to see it had a low setting but I was disappointed in yhe unburnt propane smell. With the very large head relative to it's btu output it makes sense the low setting is just too much gas for such a large surface area. It's great heater for the right application. I could also see taking this down to the beach for a little spot heat (NorCal beaches can be chilly) although the Teksport would do a much better job at keeping two people warm. This is definitely more of a 1 person heater or best used in an enclosed space with a cracked window/screen and some sensors added to keep you safe. ... show more

  • One of the best camping heaters
Size: Small
First let's make one thing clear. This is a catalytic heater. A catalytic heater generates heats by means of a chemical reaction, just like those chemical handwarmers only it gets much hotter, 3000 btus hotter. Those buddy boy heaters (I had one a long time ago) generate heat by burning propane. The difference is huge. Those are not catalytic heaters. There is a burning flame on those. This one has no burning flame. Easy to start and run. You have a high and low setting. It runs about 7 hours on high and 14 hours on low using those green 1 lb propane cylinders. It may be possible to connect it to a 20lb tank using an adapter hose. I already have one of those so I will check that out when I have the time. I'm very satisfied with the heat this gives off. It puts out infrared head so it will warm whatever it is pointed at. The angle that it sits means that it points perfectly at someone sitting down on a chair if placed in front. The heat is very pleasant. Almost feels like the rays of the sun. While running, the front grill gets hot but not hot enough to start a fire if something falls on it, and being a catalytic, I don't have to worry about any noxious fumes. Just have enough ventilation if using it in a small space because the catalytic chemical reaction does consume oxygen. When running it is very quiet and is almost odorless both on high and low. Quality of construction and durability seems decent. Everything works well. If I have one nitpick it is that there is no carrying handle. Because of that it can be a little cumbersome to carry, especially when hot. I'll take off half a star for that. I really think this is one of the best portable propane heaters out there. I recommend this over the buddy boy heaters, at least the smaller ones. If you need more btus, buy more than one. ... show more

  • Makes a lot of heat, but very bulky.
Size: Small
It takes a while to heat up, but then it does a good job. The legs are a pain, always catching on things. I would much prefer a bottom stand for the tank. All of the heat goes up anyway. I use a small fan to direct the heat where I need it. It does make a heck of a hand warmer. My biggest complaint is the lack of adjustment. The knob goes from high to almost high. Just below almost high it abruptly shuts off. I sometimes need less heat, and I would like to make the fuel supply last longer. ... show more

  • Too big for backpacking, ok for car
Size: Small
Doesn't produce great amounts of heat, but good for a personal warmer. Interestingly the black screen covering the front didn't get hand burning hot, but the thin silver strip around the heater did!

  • Portability
Size: Small
Years ago I used a catalytic type heater but went away from them when the Mr Buddy heaters became popular. Always got frustrated how easily the Buddy heaters would turn off when bumped. Wanted something I could use and wouldn't tip over to set on floor of my UTV when ice fishing or plowing. Works perfect. Wish I would have remembered the catalytic heater sooner. ... show more

  • Ignitor worthless
Size: Small
Used this unit 6 times and then the ignitor stopped working, gotta light it with a lighter now. Disappointing! Once you got it going, though, it does put out a good amount of heat.

  • Great Little Heater…Bit
Size: Small
This is a great little heater and we are using where/how we intended but the stand that was suppose to be included was not in the box. The box was clumsily taped together making me believe it was previously sold and then returned and nobody checked to make sure all the parts were in the box before they sent it out again…disappointing ... show more
