This is a great nav light option for smaller vessels. It is an all-plastic build but seems sturdy and well sealed. I was surprised at the brightness! Definitely adequate to meet regulations. I have an Old Town motorized kayak and mounting was easy for me. Since the light tower is removable you only need to mount the base. There are a couple of options included for mounting... one has an adhesive backed curved base, and the other is your choice of screws or nuts & bolts. Once the base is installed you can insert the light tower and secure it solidly into place with the locking lever. I love that the tower is removable because I'm rarely on the water after hours so I hardly ever need to use it and it's super easy to stow onboard. The low profile base is nice too since I don't have to worry about destroying the light or base when portaging or loading my yak on and off the trailer. Another huge plus in my opinion is the fact that it runs independently on three AA batteries and requires no wiring. That's called keeping it simple. The included parts sheet shows an extended tower which (I'm assuming) is an optional part since it's not included but would be nice since this is a fairly low profile light. For a larger vessel I'd probably lean toward something more solid and permanent. Overall I think this is an excellent temporary stern light option for night use in a kayak or similar small vessel that requires no wiring and it gets a solid 5 stars for that. I picked up the Five Oceans Anchor Light for my little fishing boat, and it's been a game-changer First off, the brightness of this LED light is impressive. With 2 NM visibility, I feel much more secure during those early morning or late-night trips. Knowing it meets the USCG standards gives me peace of mind. The dual function is super handy: a steady all-around light for cruising and a flashing mode for signaling. Switching between modes is a breeze with the quick press of the blue button. And no worries about the elements—this light is waterproof and floats if it goes overboard, lens up, thanks to its lightweight ABS plastic build. Installation was straightforward. I went with the flexible surface option for my inflatable, and the self-adhesive sticker held up great. It’s a relief not to worry about damage or rust with the included stainless steel fasteners. The flat surface installation option also sounds perfect for those with canoes or kayaks. It's nice to know this light is versatile enough to fit a variety of boats. Remember to stock up on 3 AA batteries since they're not included, but once you're powered up, you're good to go for ages. This little light has made my boat outings safer and more enjoyable.
