    • Solidly mediocre, but gets the job done for occasional use
The media could not be loaded. At the time that I ordered this, it was the lowest priced unit in the category. And it is pretty basic. It’s a molded plastic body that attaches via a hook and loop strap, with a single metal pin that moves in and out via a button on the body and the remote control. My unit is quite finicky on the control and kind of takes a certain rhythm to get to operate correctly. But ultimately, once you get it closed in the first place, which my unit struggles with, it does indeed reliably release on command. I was able to use this to facilitate hauling Christmas lights up a tree with my DJI Mavic 3 Pro. The drone had an issue with the weight itself before the unit got to any difficulty with dropping; in other words, this unit will handle as much weight as a typical consumer drone can safely lift and then some. But it ain’t pretty or elegant. Buy this if you have a one off DIY project to use it for once or twice. If you are going to be doing serious or repetitive work, it would be worth the investment to spend a little more for a higher end product. One major advantage is that there is nothing specific to a particular drone for this, so you won’t need to replace it if you change drone models. Honestly, when I think about strapping this to the underside of a very expensive drone, I get sick. I can imagine myself getting the payload caught on something and smashing my drone to pieces. Yeah, the idea seemed like a lot of fun to me, but when I started really thinking about what could go wrong, I just decided that this is going to find it's way into my Halloween decoration routine. This little device is going to be remotely mounted high above my driveway, suspended from a stout tree branch, holding a big bag of spooky stuff that will be released on unsuspecting Trick-Or-Treaters as the head to my front door to beg for a snack. Maybe one day I will hate my drone enough or be ready for an upgrade and I'll try this out...but for now lets just say I have more faith in the device than I do my flying skills. ... show more

Very lightweight so no problem for most drones. Works exactly as it should you can add cargo with the included cable and fly it to where you want to drop and release the cable. Works by retracting a small bar and releasing the cable. Easy to make your own cable out of string or ribbon so you don't drop the cable somewhere you can't retrieve it. I plan to fly my fishing lures out over water and drop them but I am still practicing to make sure I don't drag my drone down with the fishing line. I got this for my current toy drone and any better ones in the future. I specifically like that it will work with any drone (or other application), as long as it can carry the weight. Decent design. Pin retracts with some force (I pressed with my finger to add resistance). Remote works fine out of the box. I have yet to do a range test. Remote worked out of the box. Can use your own loops to carry things, in case you want to drop them where you can't retrieve them. Weight 30.5g with strap, 28.4g unit alone ... show more

I can fly my drone out a couple thousand feet and more but this dropper only works <500ft. Very sad as it is otherwise really cool.
