  • Effective Weed Removal
Size: 4-Claw
The Fiskars Deluxe Standing Weeder is awesome! Easy and quick to use. Is effective at getting long roots. Works well on clumpy weeds, too. Our soil has a bit of clay in it, but the weeder worked beautifully. I’m 5’7ā€ and the tool was comfortable to use. I have had it for over a year and used it at least 50 times. • Fast and easy dandelion destroyer!
Size: 4-Claw
This Fiskars Weeder is lightweight and easy to use. I pulled an entire pot full of dandelions in just a few minutes. The eject action is so satisfying and it makes a great sound - like racking one in the chamber. I tried this on pokeweed, but that taproot is just too long for this device. I tried it on a clump of crabgrass and it was super easy to pull the clump out. It sort of works on wild garlic, but it takes several tries to get the whole patch. They'll just grow back anyway. I have lots more weeding to go, but I'm a heart patient and need to do small chores each time. There's always tomorrow and more weeds! Anyone have a good recipe for dandelion greens and wild garlic? ... show more

  • CAUTION: Spearfishing for Crabgrass Can Become Addictive
Size: 4-Claw
This is a fantastic labor-saver; if you have weeds that need to go, this is your answer. I hesitated to buy it, reading through the reviews here, because my primary weed-of-choice is a HORRENDOUS infestation of crab grass (or crabgrass, depending on your spelling preference) and the reviews were mixed--2/3 said it worked on crab grass, 1/3 said it didn't. IT WORKS. And easily. Last summer, I spent several afternoons in 112 degree Texas heat, on my hands and knees, cutting crab grass out of our St. Augustine yard. Blistered hands. Tired back. Sunburn. Bug bites. About 35 plants removed after about 5 hours of really, really hot, hard work. We'd tried killing it with weedkiller that said "safe for St Augustine"--it wasn't. Huge swaths of the St Augustine died after spraying the crab grass, which just seemed to get bigger. So, after talking to a horticulturist, we tried heavy acid vinegar. No go: "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." Finally, my husband, in a fit of frustration, said he was going to kill it all with Round-Up and we'd re-seed the yard if we had to. So in September, he sprayed. The crab grass looked like it died. The St Augustine DID die. And this Spring--behold the miracle--green crab grass. A yard FULL of healthy, green crab grass and yellowed, dead St. Augustine. And two new puppies, which meant that re-seeding the lawn was OUT for this year. The only answer was to hand-extract the crab grass and pray that some random strands of St Augustine had survived the nuclear option. So, I found this upright weeder on Amazon, bought it, and was AMAZED that it truly worked and was EASY. No more back-breaking labor; no more blistered palms. And I'm quickly making a dent in the crab grass infestation. I've only had this for 2 weeks and have only used it for about 3 hours total, and we've disposed of 5 WHEELBARROWS full of crab grass so far. Plus some fuzzy cabbage-like weed and other odd weeds. Some hints: 1. Don't try to use this on dry, hard ground. It's easiest after a good rain or the day after you've run your sprinkler system. 2. Aim the center of the four "blades" at the center of your plant (for crab grass, you'll quickly learn there's less pigmentation at the center of the plant, where its "limbs" intersect--in no time, you'll develop a "feel" for this). 3. I've found it works best to insert this at a slight angle (about 30 degrees, rather than straight down), then gently tamp the black "heel" of the tool completely into the ground. Use the leverage of the "heel" to extract the weed from the ground. 4. Carry a bucketful of sand or topsoil with you, with a small garden shovel & fill the little "gopher holes" this tool makes. I extract about 8 weeds, then fill 8 holes. It's quicker than it sounds, but in our case, a necessity, lest the puppies learn that we're all REALLY, really into digging up the yard. You really will have to fill the divots this tool leaves behind. But in my opinion, it's worth it to get the crab grass root balls OUT. Permanently. 5. This model has a great feature: it "ejects" the weed after you've pulled it, using a little sliding bar on the handle. You get the great auditory reward of a ca-ching that sounds something like loading a rifle. Just the right motivator to go after more crab grass. I've Gotcha now! (Kinda makes you feel like you're channeling Carl from Caddyshack). This tool is REALLY easy to use, light in weight, and does the job. I've been very impressed with the fact that I can truly stand comfortably and successfully weed the yard. I've heard that if we can ever establish some healthy St Augustine, it will more or less keep itself weed-free--the best joke of all, I've just learned that St Augustine is a close relative of crab grass, which is why no chemical weedkiller will really kill crab grass and leave St Augustine unscathed. Who knew? Good luck with your weeding; buy one of these & you'll amaze yourself at the speed and ease of your Springtime weeding tasks--I'm really glad I bought this (and so have 2 of my neighbors, once they tried mine). Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Works awesome, but plastic parts will break
Size: 4-Claw
I received this item about three weeks ago and have pulled up thousands of dandelions and assorted weeds with it from my yard in South Georgia. The ease with which this tool pulls weeds is truly remarkable. I can fill a full size 30 gallon trash can with weeds in about 20 minutes with this tool. I would estimate that I have filled approximately 30 trash cans with weeds in the past couple weeks. It helps that we have had rains recently, and the ground has been fairly soft. This makes it easier to press the prongs into the ground and to extract the long tap roots that dandelions have. Update May 12, 2013: After using this tool for about two weeks, the plastic at the base of the unit where the lever/foot pedal attaches to the shaft split in two. This rendered the tool unusable. The good news is that it was still within Amazon's return period when it broke. When I told the customer service rep at Amazon that the item had arrived in good shape, but had broken within two weeks, she immediately offered to send me a replacement to arrive the next day. As she promised it arrived the very next day, and UPS picked up the broken one for return AFTER I received the replacement. This enabled me to use the box that the replacement was shipped in to return the broken tool as I did not keep the original packaging. Amazon customer service is excellent! I received the replacement weed puller and on the second day of usage it broke in the same place as the first one. Update May 26, 2013 I reported my problem directly to Fiskars. They have a form online to report damaged tools. I had to include a close-up picture of the damage. I did not hear back from them, so I was surprised when two weeks later I received a new weeder by UPS. By this time I had returned by second broken unit to Amazon, and they had issued a refund. Fiskars does not ask for the broken tool back. They seem to be satisfied with a photo of the broken tool. During the two weeks I was without the Fiskar's weeder I researched other weeders, but found nothing comparable that was of any better quality. The only truly durable weeder I found was Radius Garden 205 PRO Ergonomic Stainless Steel Weeder. Unfortunately, this tool will only pry the weeds out of the ground, but does not hold on to them and have the nice eject feature that is found on the Fiskars' weed puller. This tool, although durable, is not nearly as efficient as the Fiskar's Uproot Weeder. It is a lot more labor intensive, and I ended up not using it much. I was very happy therefore when Fiskars sent me the new weeder. After some consideration I found a way to use the Fiskars weeder without breaking it. Before I had been rocking the handle back in a single forceful motion to extract the weeds from the ground. This put too much stress on the plastic part of the lever. I found that if I rocked the handle back and forth, the Fiskars' Weeder would hold onto the weed, and pull it out of the ground, without breaking. I ended up finishing my yard, pulling hundreds of more weeds, many of them with large tap roots, and the Fiskars is still in good working order. I suggest that you use a rocking motion on weeds with large root systems. Don't try to extract them with a single forceful pull. It really doesn't take much more time. I may rock it back perhaps 3 times, and the root comes out easily. This method prevents the plastic lever from breaking. This weeder works far better than any other one I have tried. I actually enjoy getting out and stabbing weeds and extracting them from the ground with this tool. I have been pleased with other Fiskars products from the time I first tried a pair of their scissors about twenty years ago. At present I have a long handled axe, a hatchet, and the StaySharp reel mower by Fiskars and I am very pleased with all of them. This weeder is the only tool from Fiskars that I am unable to give a five star rating to. I believe that by using plastic on the critical parts, they have built a flaw into the tool. Nevertheless, it is still the tool I prefer by far for this task. If one is careful with it, they can get good service from it. ... show more

  • This tool means business!
Size: 4-Claw
I always have doubts about products that I can't see and try out in person. But with the Fiskars name on this weed puller, I took a chance. Boy, am I glad I did. It was amazing. Well built. Easy to use. Not heavy. Ejects the weed without much effort. The only downside I could find is that because of the way the tool is constructed, it makes getting weeds near a fence or wall somewhat difficult when you need to rock the tool back to pull the weed out of the ground. I would buy it again and would highly recommend it to others. Well worth the price. Packed well and arrived in perfect condition. ... show more
