  • Awesome salt. Read review
Color: White
I've been in the hobby since 1988. In this amount of time I've used at least a dozen salts and never written a review. I love this hobby and want to provide the best environment I can. I also want honest reviews. Non biased. From people who have used the products. There are lots of you out there with amazing experience in this hobby. This review may not be for you. For those who are new or just want to try something else just read along. I started with instant ocean. I still keep some for emergencies. Mixes well and is pretty consistent. You can buy it anywhere. Not my go to but nothing wrong with it. Just thought there has to be something better. Reef crystals. Not a fan. Pretty dirty. Has anti caking agents. Will dirty any mixing bucket fast. Coralife. Used many years ago but only with fish. Never had a problem with it. Mixes well but haven't used it in years. It's cheap. Reef salt by seachem. Probably my favorite but they don't make it anymore. Vibrant sea. Love seachem but this salt doesn't mix well. It's cheap for what you get and I'm sure it's professional salt-its seachem but I have had no luck with it. Brightwell. Smells wierd. Gets great reviews everywhere but I've used it 4 different times with bad results. My tank doesn't like it. Low in ALK. Recommended by many just not me. Kent marine. I love this salt but I can't use it anymore. Just not consistent enough from batch to batch. Calcium is not consistent. Hopefully that helps if you were wondering. Now to red sea coral pro. Gotta use ro water. Mix it in a bucket with a powerhead. Don't mix for more than 4 hours. It mixes clean. Don't have to wait for it to change water. Consistent. Perfect water quality. Best salt I've ever used. Period. Tank has never looked better. Yeah this little bucket is spendy. Yeah the bucket sucks. Might even be broken But this is hands down the best salt I've ever used. ... show more

  • Switching to Red Sea Caused Immediate Changes in my Tank
Color: White
I've used Instant Ocean Reef Crystals for several years and have always had good results. I needed to buy more salt for my water change and a fellow reefer suggested Red Sea Coral Pro Salt. It's a bit more expensive but he raved about it so I thought I'd give it a try. I've only had it in my tank for less than a week, but the difference from my previous salt is surprising. 1) Instant Ocean takes about 4 hours to clear up when mixing. Red Sea took about 30 minutes. 2) I mixed the Red Sea using the same recipe I use for Instant Ocean and it's clear it's more concentrated by volume. The amount I use to get 35ppt with Instant Ocean made it about 45ppt with Red Sea. I will be correcting my mixing next time. 3) Red Sea had an immediate and positive effect on both ORP and pH. See attached Apex Graph. I change about 15% of the water a week in my 29 Biocube. In the attached graph, I changed more like 20% with Red Sea because it was more concentrated than I expected. You can see the immediate positive changes in both pH and ORP. The fish and coral seem to be doing great (they grew well with Instant Ocean too). I honestly didn't expect there to be such a difference with salt. I'm looking forward to seeing if there is a corresponding improvement in coral growth. ... show more

Color: White
I had been buying premixed saltwater from the local fish store for the last 8 months. My corals were *okay* but not great. When the fish store closed down for several months due to a fire, I decided to mix my own saltwater with this stuff. Overnight, it made a HUGE difference in the number of polpys that would open up and how far they would extend. After a month, my zoas are starting to pick up a lot more color and my mushrooms have exploded in size from a dime sized shriveled disc to the size of a half dollar. I'm also starting to get budding again where before there was none. It is worth mentioning that I was incredibly careful with my tank before switching to this too. Calcium, magnesium, and kH were kept in balance with trace element supplements and awesome filtration. ... show more

  • Arrived good
Color: White
Smaller then I thought. Instructions are not clear but I mixed salt with R/O water until 24/25. Unfortunately my anemone freaked out and I think she is dying now. Arrived the next day. I read the reviews and unlike the others container is in good condition and salt packed inside of plastic bag. Unfortunately it was just placed in a box with my book and other thingsglad it didn’t open or would have distroyed my other things. This really needs to be packed with something to protect it and other things from it. ... show more
