Great auto safe in for bigger carboys. You’re using a 1 gallon fermenter would definitely recommend a smaller auto siphon.

I REALLY enjoy this when racking. Moving liquid from one carboy to another, this does it quickly - having had a smaller diameter on when I first started out, I really did not know any better. Comparatively, this moves faster! For bottling, unless using large vessels, I stick with the smaller size. Also, most of my equipment is scrounged and second-hand, so I discovered that some of my carboys have different size openings, and this larger tool did not fit inside. I've since marked my carboys so I can use this tool in the primary and secondary ferments, and transfer into the smaller sized carboy in the last step so I know to use the bottling cane and wands. I also make sure to run water through to flush it out after each use, then sterilizing solution (star-san) and air dry. I've found that only time (years) cracking occurs in the plastic, so there is a life-span to these items. (Unsure if it is the chlorine in the water from flushing things out, or the sterilizing solution, or again, second-hand and lived a hard life before me.) This is why I was in the market for purchasing one new, and found this item to give it a go. thus far, no cracking and performs well. I like that there is the hook so I can adjust where it sits when starting out to having the bumper on the bottom for keeping sediment out and sucking up crud from the bottom of the carboy. So much easier than using a piece of tubing, and by pumping, getting the siphon to start so it is a one person operation. I can keep from aerating the brews, which most get a little angry over. Tried bottling with it, and having had a bit of practice already, found I could manage just fine. Had a friend over to help who was new, and it was a bit overwhelming/fast for them. For precision, I slow down and use the smaller one I have, but if this were the only one I had, I'd be comfortable with it. I would upgrade to a spring loaded bottling cane however, as the top on this bottling cane is not spring loaded and is gravity/pressure based. Easier to keep clean in my opinion, but sometimes I've bumped things or jarred something and dribbled a little here and there. VERY DISSAPOINTED! I've used this a only few times in the past week and today I noticed multiple cracks! The only things I've used this with is Dawn, Hot/Cold Water, and Sugarwash. I did sterilize it by running PBW through it then immediately followed by Star-San, then a water rinse. I did that once when I first got it. It's been nothing but Star-San ever since. I have also done this exact same thing with a siphon that I have had for over 30 years and one that is fairly new and none of this has affected that these! Over all it is a GREAT idea, however I am afraid it will not last too much longer! I am going to return it and look for or build something different! PROs: Great idea! - Easy to use - easy to clean - Very Fast! CONs: OVER PRICED - It developed Cracks - Seems Fragile - TOO FAST! The suction is so great that if you get anywhere near the bottom it sucks up the yeast. ... show more

If you want to rack beer or wine, look no further. I don't use the wine bottle filler, as mine was not spring-loaded. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be so or not, but I already had a bottle filler, so I don't really need that part. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 for that reason alone, so be aware of that. Otherwise, the siphon part of this product is awesome! Easy to use. Easy to clean. A bit large and awkward to store, but that was expected. ... show more

    • no more sucking on the tube
This siphon works very well, once you get it together. The flexible tubing is very hard to get onto the siphon tube, but once you get it on, it works great. The bottling tube leaks a little, but is far better than trying to use tubing with a valve. I clean all the tubing right away so it's easy to clean. I don't think it would be as easy if you let anything dry inside the tubing. Pretty much common sense. ... show more
