A hard-learned lesson from my own fermenting research: Meads are very susceptible to volatile organics. Plastic fermenters have given every subtle mead a by-taste until I tried the recipes in glass vessels. I ended up with this carboy, because it accepts standard hardware (vapor locks, etc.) and actually costs less after shipping than a two-gallon glass jug. ... show more

My original order had two large fractures, so I sent that back for a replacement. I thought the second had arrived fractured as well, but I was educated by a wise gentleman who runs the local brew shop, that the line I seen on the second is actually an unavoidable defect of the mold and happens durring manufacturing.
