  • Fun to play as a team, not reusable
I bought 4 of EXIT games for Christmas. We started with this one. The instructions are very clear. It can be played for one player, but I would recommend to play with a family or friends. It took longer than we thought. You do not get clues all at once. You need to solve other clues to get pieces of new clues. The fun part is everything can be a clue, the book, the card, the box and etc. Pay attention to the details. Sometimes, it require to tear the page or cut the cards. That's something I do not like. Because it was only one time use and ended up wasting lots of paper and boxes. Other than that, it is a good product. ... show more

  • Love this series!! Amazingly clever - each one different from the next.
Okay, I haven’t played this exact one yet, but please read on: My husband and I have done 2 real escape rooms and loved them both. During the quarantine I wanted to find something non-electronic that we could do together and a cooperative game sounded like just the thing. We started the EXIT series with the Mysterious Museum (a level 2), then Secret Lab (3 1/2). Since then we’ve also played Pharoah’s Tomb (4) and Sunken Treasure (2) and have Forgotten Island (3) and Forbidden Castle (4) waiting in the wings. Having done four of these games so far, this is what I have to say: We are absolutely AMAZED at the cleverness. I’m particularly amazed that although each game follows the same basic format (i.e. once you’ve played one you will know quickly how to play the rest), each one is completely and utterly different in terms of theme and puzzles to solve. We have seen no duplications of anything, though each game does give you more ideas about how to think for the next one. We time each clue and then enjoy going back over what stumped us. Some puzzles took 1-3 minutes, others took 20-30 minutes or more. On the first game my husband felt we were stuck too long at one point so he went for a clue, but I was sorely disappointed that we did that. Since then we tough it out - NO CLUES! Though after we’ve escaped the room it’s fun to go back and read them. Also - these are one and done games. In other words, once you solve it you won’t want to do that again (unless some time has passed and you have a terribly memory) because it’s one solution - one game. There is no variation if you play it again. BUT... for the price - it’s cheaper than two movie tickets (also one and done) and totally worth it for an evening of entertainment. They say you have to cut/tear/bend and while that’s true we managed to keep each of the games in tact and passed them along to friends. Sometimes it SAYS to cut so we cut and just taped back together. If bending was required we used our imagination so as not to deface the game or give clues to the next players. We were able to make it happen each time. So technically you can pass it along if you want to, but even if you didn’t - like I say - cheaper than going to the movies. How many people? One could do it. Two was perfect for us. MAYBE three, but the caveat is that the pieces are small and can only be looked at by a couple people at a time. If you had a group of 4 or 5, someone will be waiting. Two people is great because the ones I got quickly, he wouldn’t have and visa versa. My only complaint: the writing is quite small on some of the pieces making it really difficult for me to read. My younger-eyed husband didn’t have a problem, but if it were just me the tiny print on some of the cards would have taken away some of the joy. So far we’ve had four great date nights and had a blast. The people who aren’t liking this game obviously just bought the wrong game for them. Go into it understanding and accepting the challenge and you will do just fine. The clues are pretty good and are progressive... so lets say you take a clue and you already had figured that out - it won’t count against you and you have two more progressive clues to check if you’d like. So there is no reason you can’t finish or understand the game. Be patient, clever, and think outside the box (or sometimes inside the box, but I digress...) LOVE.THESE.GAMES. !!! ... show more

  • Christmas Gift
My daughter and son-in-law play these for date night and said this one was a lot of fun. Great gift for couples who like to play games

  • We escaped the Island and had a great time doing it
Big fan of the Exit game series we had picked this one up for Christmas and decided to end of our recent game nights going through this one. We're already fans of these as I had mentioned so we were ready to start soon after opening up the box. Overall we had an amazing night together, we do this as 2 player couple games usually and enjoy figuring out all the things together. That being said I do think think the difficulty rating on this one might need to be bumped up to possibly a 4/5 difficulty wise, we had to use a few more of the hint cards this time around that I was happy with but many of the puzzles that we took some time and figured out on our own were very satisfying to us once complete. This is one that had us needing more tips than usual but we think that's fine for us, it is still a success in the end when you get that final clue and complete everything. I won't spoil anything but we had a great couple of hours exploring this one and have saved several of our favorite mementos in the box at the end and keep it proudly on our shelf of a reminder of the fun with the rest of the ones we've finished. For anyone else who can afford the shelf space I totally recommend keeping the boxes displayed like we do for the ones we've finished in the EXIT series. Each time we do a new one we will open the played ones and check our times or look at some of the neat puzzles we solved in previous games. It's a great reminder of the fun and they all look like exciting books on a shelf. We're looking forward to our next one, totally recommend this one; just be ready to put in some time and think out of the box. The more of this series of games you play the more some things might seem familiar and easier to solve. If you're new to these games start with one of the lower difficulty ones, and don't be too hard on yourself, take the hints if you need them and see how cool the puzzles and riddles are. ... show more

  • Very difficult
My friend and I have done 7 or 8 of these, including Dead Man on the Orient Express, which is rated 4 of 5 in terms of difficulty. We didn't attempt that game (Dead Man . . .) until we'd tried some two and three star difficulty Exit games. It took us about ninety minutes to complete, and we barely used any hints. THIS GAME is significantly harder than Dead Man. It took us closer to 2.5 hrs, and even with all the hint cards, we still didnt really get the last puzzle. We just sort of took their word for it that it would work. I would recommend this game, but only if you've done a good number of Exit games, and even then, this is absolutely a 5 out of 5 in difficulty. Buy it. Attempt it when you really want a challenge. Set aside three hours 🙃 ... show more

  • Really really challenging puzzle, definitely not for first timers!
My boyfriend and I did one of the easier Exit games (House of Riddles) and decided to give this one a shot. The difference in difficulty was super apparent. The riddles were either so easy we could do them in seconds or so hard that we needed clues for help. We got really frustrated at some points. I didn't like that you don't have to do the riddles in order - it made things more convoluted. I wish we had stuck with a lower difficulty, I just don't think this one was meant for 2 inexperienced people lol ... show more
