Description

Can you complete the jigsaw puzzles, solve the riddles, and light the beacon before the ship crashes on the rocks? You trudge along the dark, rocky coast seeking shelter from the raging storm. Drenched to the bone, you look up to see a brilliant beam of light pierce the curtains of rain. A lighthouse! But suddenly and inexplicably, the light goes out. You glance out into the water and spot a ship. It is heading straight for the cliffs! You realize that it is up to you to race to the top of the lighthouse and turn it on again before the ship crashes on the cliffs! But many puzzling obstacles stand in your way. In this EXIT game, there are riddles within riddles, hidden within four jigsaw puzzles. Like other EXIT titles, The Deserted Lighthouse has no game board, but it also has no riddle cards. Instead, there are four jigsaw puzzles that you will find and assemble, one at a time. Each completed puzzle reveals a location containing more riddles to decipher. At the start of the game, all you have available to you is a decoder disk and the first set of puzzle pieces. Over the course of the game, you will find strange items that must be used to solve the riddles in the puzzles. The game ends when you have solved the last riddle and relighted the lighthouse’s beacon, saving the ship from sinking. Difficulty level: 4 of 5

  • Great escape room experience!
Style: Lighthouse
We are experienced with at home and in person challenges and this one was fabulous. Puzzles are interactive, and a part of the whole experience- don’t put them away thinking you’re done in the step you’ve assembled! We were able to “copy” the parts that were consumable so this kit can be passed along and reused. Ages ranged from 10 to 65 and we could all participate and contribute. ... show more

  • Don't start too late

The game is fun and interesting.. I do recomend playing it a bit early in the night/evening because your braincells might become a bit slow later in the night.

  • Creative, but difficult to understand
Style: Lighthouse
The game has such wonderful puzzles/riddles and they're all very interesting, but sometimes trying to understand what you're supposed to be doing isn't easy to figure out. One of the puzzles has you color on top of the puzzle, but just asking for it to be lined up properly is vague, I thought it just needed to be right side up. I feel like they could've maybe added the corner colored in on the puzzle the same way the map is or something to correlate it back to the puzzle. It's great quality though, all of the puzzle pieces fit nicely together I do wish it was replayable so that multiple groups could play the same game, but it does crazy things with the elements and that's worth it ... show more

  • Well executed! Great use of the theme!

So, I have played all of the Exit games and this one is very similar. I have also played the "jigsaw puzzle" version of Escape Room: The Scientist. Both jigsaw games have great puzzles, but this Exit version is far superior in terms of challenge and creative use of the jigsaw puzzle itself in solving puzzles. In this game the jigsaw is not just a gimmick - in other words, it isn't just a substitute for what could have been a piece of paper... you actually USE the jigsaw in a variety of unique and interesting ways. It was creative, fun, and yes, the puzzles are pretty challenging. I play these by myself and this one took me every bit of 2 hours. ... show more

  • Not playable
Style: Lighthouse
This had SO MUCH potential, but due to a portion of one of my puzzles not being translated from the original German it was unsolvable. The hints and solution would have worked if the riddle was in English, but as I do not speak German it made the puzzle frustrating and impossible. Great concept and love the other puzzle escape room, but this one was a miss. Everything else was translated correctly, but I literally had to watch someone else’s play through for the constellation riddle to see that mine was not translated and therefore unplayable. Finished the game with the answer given in the booklet, but. No way to get there on my own with what was given. ... show more

  • Great mechanics, one of the better EXIT games
Style: Lighthouse
Challenging, but not as hard as other EXIT games, and much more intuitive/natural. The riddles are well crafted, and it's much easier to tell which puzzle you should be focusing on rather than spending forever trying to work on a puzzle that you don't have all the materials for yet. Lots of very fun, unique mechanics that I haven't seen in other EXIT games. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • All in All Not Totally Unhappy But... It's Hard
Style: Lighthouse
We enjoy the EXIT games, so I thought I'd give the jigsaw versions a try. I love jigsaws and escape challenges, so I'm personally hooked, but I liked the Sacred Temple more than this one. THE GOOD: My partner is not a fan jigsaws- so its nice I could play alone. I'm slow at figuring out the riddles. (I have my doubts about people who claim they solve these things in an hour or two.) I broke this up into one puzzle a day and got a lot of enjoyment out of it over several days. I like having the assembly process to break up the mental challenges. The artwork is really good and quality of the puzzle cuts is high. You can keep the puzzles just as... puzzles. I disagree that these are "one and done" disposable. This version can definitely be re-gifted if you make a zerox or two and take care with the clues. If I stuck this in a closet a few years, I'd definitely forget the solutions. My purchase did NOT have the German typos some people complained about. I demoted stars on a couple issues. Several of the riddles are ridiculously hard. I don't actually mind too much, but some of the answers involved way more lateral thinking and multi-level steps than I was was able to divine on my own. I had to use a lot of clues and at least one "solution" was a stretch and took me a while to understand even with their own description. Perhaps a partner with different logic would have helped? The editing wasn't the best. I sometimes couldn't figure out the next lock without glancing at the color-coded solution page to know where to proceed. The last card is a throw-away. With so much imagery they easily could have just added a bonus riddle that maybe had clues from all 4 images? This isn't a good introduction to this company. It's probably best to have done a few of the card-game versions first so you understand the deal. I'd be hesitant to do a jigsaw EXIT with more than two people because of the extra assembly step. The images are glossy and very dark, making them hard to view without correct lighting (and sometimes a magnifying glass). Looking forward to new ones in the future. ;) ... show more
