  • Easy install
I followed the instructions by first connecting the wires to my garage door opener to test functionality. The most difficult part was getting the wires to stay inserted to the push pins with the thicker gauge wire coming from the wall. I finally got them to stick after a half dozen attempts. Use of the double sided tape made installation fast and easy. I needed twice as many zip ties than what were included. I appreciated the wiring guide options for the open/closed sensor. The instructions showed double sided tape could be used with mounting the L shaped mount, but I could not find one in the packaging. I had spare double sided tape from a cell phone mount and used it successfully. I installed SmartLife. I set the app to detect a new garage door device, plugged the power in for the controller, and in about 20 seconds the device was discovered on the first try. I first integrated SmartLife with Alexa. I programmed a security code and for some reason, it kept saying my code was incorrect. I never solved it (didn't really try more than 2 min) and abandoned the Alexa integration because I wanted more home automation control with my SmartThings controller. In SmartThings, if the garage door is opened, then it turns on the garage lights. Integration between SmartThings and SmartLife was easy and works great through the SmartThings app. The weird thing is, my SmartThings integrates to my Alexa and to open the garage door, I have to say, "Turn on garage door" and "Turn off garage door" to close it. Using off/on as the commands is awkward, but it works. ... show more

  • Typical pain to install; works well once it's working
Worst thing about this and all similar wifi control products is their 2.4GHz-only setup requirement. Many newer wifi routers, especially the mesh systems, have no way to disable the 5GHz band so the only way to set up these devices is to move them and your phone far enough away from the router that the 5Ghz signal can't reach your (quite sensitive) phone, but you still have a strong 2.4Ghz signal for the weaker radio in the new device. And with an AC powered device like this one, that can be...tricky, at best. But once you find that sweet spot and run the setup process a few times until it completes, the device works. Note to those who may be trying less conventional installations/uses: My use is to control a gate that's ~800 feet from my house. I have a buried data cable to the gate, and I have the controller installed in the house. The old wifi controller (which has died) had no issue at all with the 800 feet of wire between the magnetic prox switch on the gate to the controller, but this one couldn't deal with it. No matter what I tried, gate status continuously and randomly switched between open and closed, no matter the state of the prox switch. I'm experienced electronics tech; I cured it on my system with a small 12V relay mounted at the wifi module. It's powered from the gate's battery and switched by the prox switch, and the contacts in the relay are wired to the wifi modules gate status terminals. If you need something similar, you'll need to find a tiny mating connector for the gate sense terminals, or cut the one off the supplied prox switch & splice your wires on it. ... show more

  • Keep it simple for the install
The instructions could be more clear. Connect to the internet before taking it to the garage. Install at motor and route it to the sensor point. Set up the sensor on the door first, then the wall mounted sensor. They don’t need to touch each other. Just close enough to trigger the magnetic field change. Have zip ties on hand to hold the extra wire not needed. Make sure the wire is secure and the sensors are secure. I used thread lock on the door mounted sensor with a nut and bolt I had on hand due to the vibrations. App works even using voice commands but only after I changed the name to “Garage”. So, on the app you can say “open Garage” and it should work. I will set it up for Siri with my Apple Watch next. I would recommend it to anyone who has received a text from the neighbor saying the garage door is open and no cars are in the driveway. I liked this version especially because it has plug in power and not batteries. ... show more

  • Smart garage controller - does not work with Alexa
Overall, I thought I had a defective unit as the blue blinking light was not blinking initially.., The instruction asks to press the rest button but, there's no such button. After pressing several times the on button, i finally get it to blink and pair to my phone. I linked the account with Alexa; I set up an open code. When I ask Alexa to open/close, she tells me it's opening or closing but, the door does not move. I reached out to the customer service email on the label but, no response. I know this is only a $20.0 bucks gadget but, you get what you paid for. I will not suggest to buy this product. ... show more

  • No hub required!
I’m super glad this product exists! I was not excited to buy 2 whole openers for my brand new home with dumb openers, so when I found this guy that can make them smart for Pennie’s on the dollar, I was ecstatic, sure, it lacks a little functionality… (namely autoclose) but there’s also no hub required!! Got another one for my other door, too! 10/10 recommend ... show more

  • Having issues but overall i a great product
I have these units installed to open commercial garage doors and driveway gates. Easy to use and setup w app. I have one that periodically will open the gate on it own and I guess there's a know issue with a few. There cheap enough to replace.

  • Outstanding smart garage door opener!!
I've got nothing but good to say about this product, it was a very easy setup and the instructions were easy to follow. It was literally connecting two wires and plugging it in and using my smart life app to find the device. After that I personally had some smaller customizations I had to make for my garage door. But overall this was a very seamless install and I highly recommend it! Especially as it was within budget and worked with my existing smart life app. ... show more
