I bought a cheaper version of these for my wife at a big box store, to use to plant small tray annuals in the spring. It "broke" pretty quickly. I looked online and found these and they had good reviews. My wife owns them, and they are great for a variety of garden tasks. Besides basic hole digging, they are great for losing soil for aeration, digging locations for sprinkler repair, and even mixing soil in a bucket with additives before using it for bed planting. They are well made, fit in any standard drill chuck and the different sizes come in handy. WARNING: If you give these to someone that isn't familiar with modern drills you should give them some instruction on how the drill works, especially if it has multiple settings or if it is a combo hammer drill. Hard ground and a powerful drill can hurt a wrist pretty fast. Just like any tool, the user needs to know how to use it safely. Also, be prepared to "lose" your drill to whomever you let use it while planting is at hand. A hand-me-down drill or an add-on gift might be required if you use your drill on the regular and have to share ;-) ... show more

I have long stem augers ( 2 and 3 ft long) with the center diameter about 3/8 inch. It has a lot if vibrations. Comparing those to this big large centers and shorter length product , iU can tell ut essily drills thru hard soil mixed with rock , i can tell more power in torque as there is little liss in torgue and vibration due to solud larger center diameter snd shorter stem. I wish , i should hace used this long time ago as I must have drilled close to 700 tulip bulbs on hard ground , sift ground mixed with rocks. I will use thus all the time instead of the long dtem smaller diameter ones. Except for the bending when drilling , this product is SOLID, easier to drill/ dig hard and rocky ground and less tume to do so. Terrifuc product compared to my twoo other older libg stem smaller diameter centers. ... show more

I used these in a 20V Dewalt cordless drill, and they worked wonderfully. I was using them to prep holes for stakes used to support a metal fence. I drilled about 45 holes in the ground. The ground was Georgia red clay, north of Atlanta. If I hit a rock, I would just drill around it until it came up. For the price, I can definitely recommend these. ... show more

These earth augers work great. They will save you tons of time when planting out your garden. One suggestion though, do not try to use them in fresh worked ground, and the hole will simply collapse on you. If the ground is fairly firm they work great though!
